IT’S the movie that everyone’s talking about, yet no one has even seen yet.
The Oscar buzz around Birdman is already mounting after a whopping seven Golden Globe nominations, and four SAG award noms it received earlier this week, the most of any film.
The black comedy stars Michael Keaton as the title character with supporting roles from Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone, and our own Naomi Watts.
Birdman is an ageing Hollywood star once famous for portraying an iconic superhero and his desperate struggle to revive his career in a Broadway play.
And it’s already been met with universal critical acclaim.
Rotten Tomatoes gave a whopping 94 per cent approval rate of 167 reviews, with the critics consensus unanimous in it’s praise.
“A thrilling leap forward for director Alejandro González Iñárritu,” the consensus said, “Birdman is an ambitious technical showcase powered by a layered story and outstanding performances from Michael Keaton and Edward Norton.”
While Variety called it “a triumph on every creative level” and Britain’s The Telegraph gave the film an extremely rare five stars.
Critics are already predicting that Keaton will be a frontrunner for an Academy Award for Best Actor.
But if you want to see it, you’ll have to wait as the film isn’t released until January 15 next year.
