According to Deadline, it will track George’s childhood growing up in an Irish working-class family, through to his rise to the top of the international charts with ’80s band Culture Club.

Throughout his career, he’s sold over 100 million singles and 50 million albums both solo and as part of a group.

The singer is currently working as a judge on The Voice Australia, alongside Delta Goodrem, Guy Sebastian and Kelly Rowland.

MGM are producing the movie, with Sacha Gervasi, who helmed Hitchcock in 2012, serving as writer and director.

George himself has signed on as an executive producer.

It comes after Bohemian Rhapsody grossed more than $US900 million at the box office, scoring a Best Actor Oscar win for star Rami Malek and a Best Picture nomination.

And it’s not the only big musical biopic in the works for MGM. The studio is also currently developing an Aretha Franklin movie with Jennifer Hudson rumoured to be starring as the Queen of Soul.
