Truth behind wild Jackman remark revealed

Hugh Jackman has seemingly revealed that he’s well and truly moved on from his divorce that left the world stunned last year.

The truth behind a wild joke about Hugh Jackman’s divorce in the new blockbuster Deadpool movie has been revealed.

Discussing some of the more cruel jabs made at the Deadpool & Wolverine cast’s personal lives in the new Marvel blockbuster, director Shawn Levy has insisted that every remark made was personally agreed upon by the star it was referencing.

“He’s usually shirtless,” Deadpool says of Jackman’s Wolverine. “But he’s let himself go since the divorce.”

Jackman, 55, and Deborra-Lee Furness, 68, announced they were splitting up in September 2023.

Then later in the movie after Jennifer Garner’s Elektra is reintroduced, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool offers condolences for the death of Daredevil, who was played by Garner’s ex-husband, Ben Affleck, in 2003’s Daredevil.

“Oh, it’s fine,” she responds, seemingly unbothered.

“We never did a joke about or with anyone that we didn’t run by them first,” Levy revealed, going on to seemingly let slip that the Jackman remark was made up on the spot by Ryan Reynolds.

“Whether it was scripted, like the Daredevil line, or unscripted. Those lines wouldn’t be in the movie if Hugh and Jen didn’t think they were funny,” he told Variety. “Ryan or I would always run the lines by performers and make sure everyone felt comfortable and that we were never punching down. It was all in a playful spirit that everyone felt good about.”

Last year, Jackman and Furness said they had grown apart and decided to split.

“Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth,” they said in a joint statement.

“Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness.”

The couple met in 1995 on the set of ABC TV production, Correlli, and married the following year in Toorak, Victoria. News of their split came as a huge surprise, with the duo long considered one of the strongest pairings in showbiz.

In an interview with People Magazine, Furness has shared how that journey has been for her, and what she’s learned since their shock split.

“[I learned] that I’m strong and resilient,” Furness said.

She also told Page Six at the screening for her new movie that she’s been “learning a lot about myself and I’m embracing evolution and growth.”

The actress told the outlet that it’s been a “year of evolution” for her that has been “scary” and “every other adjective.”

However, Furness told the outlet she was “grateful” it presented her with an opportunity for personal growth.

She also revealed that she’s had close friends to lean on for support as she explores life as a single woman again.

“I say this to all women — your girlfriends are a necessity in life,” Furness said before adding that her children have also been “very supportive”.
