Seven stars who have been horrifically injured on movie sets

SOME actors are willing to go the extra mile for film roles, but which Hollywood A-listers have actually suffered bad injuries?

HOLLYWOOD A-listers are known to be primped and proper for nearly all occasions — but even they can sometimes fall foul of on set injuries out of their control.

Courtesy of The Sun, here are just some of the biggest injuries famous faces have suffered in the name of their art.

HARRISON FORD — STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

The reboot of the Star Wars franchise almost killed off one of its most loved actors after a freak accident left the then 71-year-old Harrison Ford with a smashed up leg.

Ford — who plays Han Soloin the iconic universe — had his leg crushed by a hydraulic door in 2014 during filming at Pinewood Studios.

A court heard how during the scene, a door on the Millenium Falcon spaceship acted like a “blunt-edged guillotine” and snapped his leg and was millimetres away from his face as he slid under it.

The production team didn’t hit the emergency stop button quick enough and as a result the star was pinned to the floor by his pelvis.

Foodles, the production company behind the film, was fined £1.6 million ($A2.6 million) for breaching health and safety regulations.

Speaking to Jimmy Fallon, he joked: “They closed a f***ing door on me! JJ [Abrams- director] did it!” before demonstrating what happened on a Han Solo doll.

LEONARDO DICAPRIO — DJANGO UNCHAINED

During an intense argument between Django and the slave owner ‘King’ Candy, DiCaprio got himself into a spot of bother as he slams his hand down on the table — taking out a glass that sliced through his hand.

Despite the injury, he continued the scene as if nothing was wrong, and his hand slowly gets more and more coated with blood.

The scene actually makes it into the final film of the Tarantino flick, and is left even more gut-wrenching when you consider he wipes his hand down the face of his (rightly disgusted) co-star.

ISLA FISHER — NOW YOU SEE ME

Fisher’s character Henleymay have been a master of trickery in the 2013 film — but that didn’t mean that Fisher was.

A stunt which saw Fisher handcuffed in a water tank nearly killed off the actress as no one realised she was actually drowning.

As it was part of the scene for her character to appear to be struggling, a crowd watched as Fisher struggled to break free from her chain as it got stuck.

It meant that she couldn’t reach the emergency drain button installed in the tank, and as a result she was left nearly dead after more than two minutes underwater.

Thankfully, the chain eventually came loose and she made it out alive.

BRAD PITT — TROY

While the film is hardly considered a classic, the historical epic Troy proved to be king when it came to irony.

Playing the role of legendary warrior Achilles, the Hollywood A-lister found himself in serious agony after he tore his Achilles tendon.

The tendon, found in your heel, got its name from the same warrior, who was killed when he was shot through the ankle with an arrow.

He was therefore unable to continue working for ten weeks of the film’s shoot.

ORLANDO BLOOM — LORD OF THE RINGS

While filming his part of Legolasin the three-part fantasy epic by Peter Jackson, Bloom was thrown from the horse he was riding and sustained several broken ribs.

He later decided to continue filming despite the injuries, and shot an epic fight scene that saw him wincing as he chased Orcs.

Bloom has previously admitted to being somewhat accident prone on set, with other roles across his career caused him to break his nose, crack his skull and fracture his legs.

MICHAEL J FOX — BACK TO THE FUTURE III

Fox’s character Marty McFly is an icon of 80s cinema — but during filming of the third instalment of the franchise, the actor barely made it out alive.

Set as a western, Fox is seen being hung by the villains of the film — and in order to shoot it, Fox agreed to have a rope around his neck with a mechanism stopping him from actually getting hung.

However, the rig backfired and the actor was left actually swinging and starved of oxygen.

He wrote in his memoir that originally no one realised the issue, before Bob Zemeckis realised he “wasn’t that good of an actor” and got him down.

BRANDON LEE — THE CROW

Lee — son of icon Bruce Lee — was accidentally shot on set by Michael Massee while filming cult classic The Crow in 1993.

A prop gun used in the scene was improperly prepared after being used for previous shots, and as a result he took a “dummy” bullet to the stomach, shot with the force of a live round.

The freak accident killed the promising young actor, who was only 28 at the time, and the film was finished using material already shot, stunt doubles, and special effects.

Massee, who died in October 2016 aged 64, refused to watch the film after its release, and admitted that he couldn’t get over his unwitting role in the death of his co-star.
