With a twirl in her tutu, Sarah Jessica Parker reminded us exactly what we’ve been missing since Sex and The City wrapped up in 2004. Carrie Bradshaw fashion.

Parker paid tribute to her well-dressed on-screen alter ego on the red carpet ahead of the premiere of the most-anticipated television reboot this decade.

The 56-year-old donned an Oscar de la Renta evening dress with a sweetheart neckline, beading throughout and a tulle tutu-esque skirt peeking out.

It was a clever nod to the opening credits of the original show where Carrie twirls around and is splashed by a passing bus that happens to have her picture (and the slogan “Carrie Bradshaw knows good sex”) plastered on the side.

She eschewed Carrie’s heels of choice – Manolo Blahniks – and slipped into a pair from her own SJP collection.

It was a family affair for Parker who was joined on the red carpet at New York’s Museum of Modern Art by her husband Matthew Broderick and their 19-year-old son James Wilkie.

Kristin Davis, who plays hopeless romantic Charlotte York-Goldenblatt, looked classically beautiful in a royal blue mermaid-style gown with a ruffled off-the-shoulder neckline.

While Cynthia Nixon, who plays the loveably cynical Miranda Hobbes, wore an eye-catching neon orange dress with a pointed collar. The blinding bright floor-length dress buttoned up the front and had long sleeves with cinched cuffs.

Parker laughed and joked in front of the media as she reunited with her on-screen husband Chris Noth, who has played Carrie’s on/off lover John James ‘Mr Big’ Preston since the series’ inception in 1998.

Production has been very secretive about exact plot details of the 10-episode series. Screeners have not been released to media ahead of the show dropping on to streaming service Binge.

We do know And Just Like That reunites beloved characters Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda navigating friendships and romance in their 50s.

It’s been well-documented and discussed as to how the show could possibly fill the gaping hole left by Kim Cattrall declining to reprise her iconic role of our favourite sex-positive PR executive Samantha Jones. There’s a plethora of new cast members to try and fill the void.

This time around, there’s more diversity both in front of the camera and in the writers’ room. Black actors Karen Pittman and Nicole Ari Parker have joined the cast, as has Sarita Choudhury, who is of English and Bengali Indian descent and Sara Ramírez, who is Mexican-American and non-binary. Pittman and Choudhury described landing roles in the reboot as a “dream come true”.

Fans also know it’s the last time they’ll see Willie Garson as Carrie’s best friend Stanford Blatch, after Garson died during filming. The teaser trailer was bittersweet showing Carrie and Stanford still walking arm in arm down the streets of New York City all these years later.
