OLIVER Stone is sure to drum up fresh controversy when he tackles a film based on NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden.
The 67-year-old director on Monday said he would adapt of The Snowden Files, an account of the NSA scandal written by journalist Luke Harding, according to the Guardian.
“This is one of the greatest stories of our time,” Stone said in a statement. “A real challenge.”
The film will chronicle Snowden’s ongoing saga, focusing on what happened after the former contractor leaked thousands of classified documents taken from the secretive US security agency.
Stone, no stranger to difficult topics, has previously chronicled the Kennedy assassination, in JFK, and the Watergate break-in, in Nixon.
His Snowden biopic is set to begin filming at the end of the year.
