‘Snow White’ star Rachel Zegler labelled ‘narcissistic’ by film producer’s son in explosive rant after box office flop
As Snow White continues to fizzle at the box office, the film producer’s son has hit out at lead star Rachel Zegler in an explosive rant.
Snow White star Rachel Zegler was slammed as “immature” by Disney producer Marc Platt’s son Jonah Platt in an explosive rant after the film flopped at the box office.
Mr Platt called out the actor in a since-deleted Instagram comment Wednesday after a critic labelled his father as “creepy as hell” for flying to New York City to chat with Zegler about her political social media posts, reports The New York Post’s Page Six.
According to the Daily Mail, Mr Platt clapped back, “Yeah, my dad, the producer of [an] enormous piece of Disney IP with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, had to leave his family to fly across the country to reprimand his 20-year-old employee for dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie …”
Mr Platt, 38, claimed that Zegler, 23, “signed a multimillion-dollar contract” to star in and promote the live-action musical.
“This is called adult responsibility and accountability,” he continued, adding that the West Side Story star’s “actions clearly hurt the film’s box office”.
Responding to the critic’s remark that Zegler was entitled to free speech, Mr Platt argued that “free speech does not mean you’re allowed to say whatever you want in your private employment without repercussions.”
Mr Platt also accused the actor of making the cast and crew collateral damage.
“Tens of thousands of people worked on that film and she hijacked the conversation for her own immature desires at the risk of all the colleagues and crew and blue collar workers who depend on that movie to be successful,” he said.
“Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged.”
According to Box Office Mojo, Snow White brought in $US88,627,963 worldwide and $US44,720,897 domestically on its opening weekend. It reportedly cost $US270 million to make.
Spokespeople for Mr Platt and Zegler weren’t immediately available to Page Six for comment.
Mr Platt’s fiery response came after entertainment industry magazine Variety reported on Tuesday that Marc Platt encouraged Zegler to work with a social media guru after she took aim at President Trump and his supporters following the 2024 presidential election.
At the time, she posted “F**k Donald Trump” and “May Trump supporters … never know peace” online.
Disney execs reportedly worried that her political statements would deter half of their potential audience from seeing the multimillion-dollar movie.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes star later apologised for her remarks and agreed to have her posts vetted by the expert leading up to the film’s March 21 release.
According to the outlet, there had already been tension between Zegler and the studio after she shared a pro-Palestinian message while celebrating the Snow White teaser trailer’s success in August 2024.
She signed off the viral post, “and always remember, free Palestine”.
Zegler’s addendum reportedly forced Disney to beef-up security for her co-star Gal Gadot who was allegedly receiving death threats for her support of Israel.
