Stuck indoors? Worry not, as two more recent in-cinema movies are now available to watch at home after being fast-tracked for digital platforms.

New release movies have been fast-tracked for home viewing after all Australian cinemas were ordered to shut in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Thriller The Invisible Man and comedy Emma are among the recently released cinema films now available on digital platforms such as iTunes, Google Play and YouTube. Both films are available for 48-hour digital rental for $29.99.

The price is steep for digital rental which is typically around $6.99 for a new release but the cost is in line with the US where they’re available to rent for $US19.99 ($32.45), and comes in cheaper than two cinema tickets.

The Invisible Man and Emma were still playing when cinemas were shuttered.

Sony has also released Vin Diesel flick Bloodshot on video-on-demand for digital purchase at $24.99.

Roadshow, which distributes Warner Bros films in Australia, was the first major studio locally to announce it is releasing a slew of recent cinema releases for digital purchase. The Roadshow titles are only available to buy, not rent, for the moment but they are priced lower at $24.99 to own.

The most high-profile among the Roadshow movies is DC Comics film Birds of Prey: The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn , starring Margot Robbie. The action flick was only released into cinemas in early February.

Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears, the movie sequel to the popular ABC show, which was only in cinemas in late February, is also out on digital.

The other early release titles are Edward Norton movie Motherless Brooklyn, Ben Affleck addiction drama The Way Back (April 15), Clint Eastwood true-life drama Richard Jewell, death row drama Just Mercy, Guy Ritchie gangster movie action The Gentlemen, war epic Midway and Australian family movie Go!

Disney also released Onward , a new Pixar adventure, on digital platforms this weekend. Onward only had a weekend of sneak previews in Australia, and it will also be available to stream on Disney+ from April 24.

Most of the titles are still within the traditional three-month theatrical window, which would usually forbid the home entertainment release within 90 days of a cinematic debut, but studios have had to respond in these extraordinary times as the coronavirus pandemic closed public spaces such as cinemas the world over.

The coronavirus pandemic has hit the arts and entertainment industry hard, shutting down cinemas and suspending productions with the expectation it will cost the industry at least tens of billions of dollars.

Movie release dates have been delayed to much later in the year or indefinitely, including anticipated titles such as Mulan, Black Widow, A Quiet Place Part II and Wonder Woman 1984.

Disney brought forward the digital streaming release of Frozen 2 to Disney+ by three months.
