Social media followers criticise Fifty Shades of Grey film trailer
ONE of the most anticipated movies of 2015, Fifty Shades of Grey, released its first trailer. Fans of the book did not hold back.
THERE was more hot action the last time Beyonce was involved in an elevator incident, but for the millions of fans of Fifty Shades of Grey , this was the footage they’d been waiting to see: Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele up against the wall of a lift as a slowed down version of Crazy in Love played heavily over the top.
The film’s first trailer was released overnight, featuring the abridged metamorphosis of dowdy college student Anastasia Steele, arriving at the office of billionaire/sex predator Christian Grey to interview him for “the newspaper” in a floral blouse and cardigan and beaten down demeanour, catnip to the bondage gear he apparently keeps in his desk drawer.

A perfunctory trawl through social media suggests fan reaction ranges from disappointment at the lack of zing between the two stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, to mild shock at the state of Johnson’s lank hair, to reminders to the rest of us that there are already dirty videos available already on the internet, to lingering outrage that the original Christian Grey, Sons of Anarchy actor Charlie Hunnam, isn’t in the movie. And the agreement seemed to be they don’t look the way they do in the books.
“I think I speak for all the women in the world when I say Christian Grey should be more attractive than that,” @tindelrosario11 wrote on Twitter.
@Ant-917 complained that the movie made Jamie Dornan the least hot version of himself he’d ever seen. But — in amelioration — there was a new version of Beyonce’s mega-hit Crazy in Love. Although someone called @studioexec1 said if Morgan Freeman had played Christian Grey it would’ve been a hot ticket. (Disclaimer: It’s unlikely Studio Exec 1 is actually a studio executive.)
Many comments on the official trailer on You Tube were interested in the Twilight connection to the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy of books, which the film is based on. There were also several alternative casting suggestions, such as Emma Stone and Kristen Stewart.
Film nuts on movie website imdb.com were talking about how little sexual heat the pair generated given the trailer had Dornan shirtless and Johnson blindflinded and tied to a bed at point. “I’ve seen Games of Thrones episodes more erotic than this,” said VampBC.
This is a tiny sample though, and the Fifty Shade of Grey trilogy of books were read in their millions, virtually guaranteeing — like the Twilight movies — a hit when the film’s released on Valentine’s day next year.
