Carmen Electra still flaunting it at 42 in so-bad-it’s-good movie about strippers
SMALL town strippers, big dreams, an indecent proposal, Carmen Electra ... the trailer for this new movie Lap Dance is so bad it’s good.
IT’S a tale almost as old as time itself — a young aspiring actress is forced to put her dreams of stardom on hold and get a job as a stripper to pay for her sick dad’s medical bills.
Part coming-of-age story and cautionary tale, part inside look at the world of exotic dancing, Lap Dance is a heartwarming new film set to hit the big screen in the United States next month.
It features an all-star cast including ‘90s pin-up Carmen Electra, an unusually large number of actors from the Step Up dance flick franchise, and James Remar, who played Richard Wright in Sex And The City.
Since its official release last week, the movie’s trailer has amassed thousands of views on YouTube, indicating its likely fortunes at the box office.
The plot, which is based on a true story, follows Monica, played by Ali Corbin, and her screenwriter boyfriend Kevin, played by Robert Hoffman, as they make the move to Hollywood to pursue their respective film career dreams.
On the way, they make a pit stop in Houston to discover Monica’s father is battling cancer, broke and facing mounting hospital bills.
Desperate to help, Monica runs in to an old school friend Tasha (Briana Evigan) who suggests she get her kit off at the local strip club to make some fast cash.
Kevin is completely on board with the idea, but on the condition she doesn’t hook up with any of her customers — an agreement that’s inevitably tested when Monica is faced with temptation, seduction and an “enchanting lifestyle”.
LOVE WOES: Carmen Electra says she was ‘self destructing’ when she decided to marry Dennis Rodman
“Once the pact the couple made is broken, their lives are changed forever,” the film’s official synopsis reads.
Accompanying the trailer was an official poster, featuring Electra and the provocative tagline “fast money comes at a dangerous price”.
MAGIC MIKE: Joe Manganiello shares the ultimate workout photo
Electra plays Lexus, an older, more seasoned stripper at the club and appears to a kind of sassy mother hen.
She’s overseen by the real matriarch Sugar, a no-nonsense veteran of the undressing arts who the girls affectionately call Mama.
Sugar is played by LisaRaye McCoy-Misick, who viewers may recognise from her role in the successful stripper film The Players Club.
As online commentators have pointed out, this is essentially Magic Mike but with girls.
Directed by Greg Carter, Lap Dance is due for release on December 5.
