Glenn Robbins has revealed he turned down an approach to star in a huge Hollywood movie.

The Aussie comedian told the Hit network’s Hughesy and Ed that he could have played Rebel Wilson’s dad in Pitch Perfect 3.

“I was doing Russell Coight at the time and I would have had to have asked for time off (from the TV show),” he told the radio hosts.

Robbins admitted that he didn’t know much about the Pitch Perfect films when he was approached about the role.

“I said to them, ‘Can I see the script?’ And they said, ‘No,’” Robbins said. “So I went, ‘Oh well,’ and I didn’t hear from them again.”

The role was eventually played by John Lithgow who, according to Rendezview’s Jim Mitchell, delivered “one of THE worst Australian accents in (movie) history”.

The film’s director, Trish Sie, told The Hollywood Reporter that she thought Lithgow nailed the Aussie accent.

“We talked a lot about who should play Fat Amy’s dad, and it was really important to me that it be as realistic as possible, meaning the physicality and chemistry and physical resemblance had to be there,” she said.

“A credible Australian accent had to be there. I’ve heard John do British accents really convincingly, so I believed he could really pull that off … He worked with a dialect coach who was so devoted to that, and I just wanted it to be believable because it’s such an out-of-orbit storyline to begin with that I wanted to make sure we believed it.”

She continued: “He was so good at mimicking not just an Australian accent in general but her (Wilson’s) accent. He studied her and watched her body language and tried to sort of mimic that.”
