My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 sees the Portokalos extended family headed to the homeland to honour the dying wish of Toula’s (played by Nia Vardalos) late father, Gus.
The gang sight-see in beautiful Greece and engage in all the local traditions amid the family’s usual chaos.
Stars Elena Kampouris, Lainie Kazan, Andrea Martin, Gerry Mendicino and Maria Vacratsis are also back for the third film, which is written and directeds by Vardalos.
When the original My Big Fat Greek Wedding premiered in 2002, it became the highest-grossing romantic comedy of all time, earning $US368 million ($534 million) worldwide in its first year of release - staggering for a film that only had a $5 million ($7 million) budget.
It also went on to be nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars in 2003 and at the Golden Globes that year, it earned nominations for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for Vardalos.
In 2016, Vardalos released the sequel, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, which was also a hit, grossing $US90.6 million ($131 million) worldwide against a $US18 million ($26 million) budget.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 will be released in Australia on September 7.
