Did you know Netflix has a ‘Steamy’ section?
THINK Netflix only has beige collections such as ‘Horror,’ ‘Drama’ and ‘Comedy’? Wrong. There’s actually some naughty categories.
WARNING: This article is steamy.
In a famous 2014 article called “How Netflix Reverse Engineered Hollywood”, The Atlantic’s Alexis Madrigal discovered that the streaming giant had created 76,897 “micro-genres” for its catalogue, ranging from “Emotional Fight-the-System Documentaries” to “Period Pieces About Royalty”.
Would you be surprised to learn that among these 76,000-plus genres, a few of them are about some of the naughtier selections in their catalogue?
Decider did some digging and found plenty of different micro-genres that involve the word “steamy.”
You can start really broad by looking at the entire “steamy” genre, or whittle down a bit by subgenre (“Steamy Foreign Dramas”), or, for those of you with discerning taste, critic-approved steamy movies (like “Critically-acclaimed Steamy Independent Dramas”).
Of course, we took the liberty of picking out some of the steamiest movies and shows on Netflix for you:
The Client List
Jennifer Love Hewitt stars in this series as a housewife who begins a job as a masseuse at a spa after her husband ditches her. Not surprisingly, hand jobs are on the menu.
Hot Girls Wanted
This 2015 Netflix documentary about amateur porn stars was so popular that the streaming giant commissioned a sequel, Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On, which will premiere later this month.
Blue Is The Warmest Color
This 2013 film won the Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival for its raw and honest portrayal of a same-sex relationship, but Netflix dropped this film into its “steamy” section for a reason. There’s a 12-minute long sex scene in the middle of this movie which caused the entire world’s jaw to drop.
Teenage Cocktail
Two teen girls form an intense bond and launch a lucrative webcam business, leading them to a dangerous encounter with a middle-aged married man.
Ingobernable
“Ingobernable” translates as “ungovernable” in English, but you’ll be forgiven if you think it really means “steamy.” This brand new Netflix original stars Mexican super hottie Kate del Castillo, aka the woman who was so beautiful that El Chapo let down his guard and got captured (for a second time) by the policia.
As you may have discovered, just because a “steamy” micro-genre exists doesn’t necessarily mean that Netflix currently has a licence to play shows or films that fit that description.
That said, Netflix is always adding (and dropping) titles from their collection, so keep checking often on your hunt for steaminess on Netflix.
