STAFF at an American nature reserve have given two of their chimpanzees a treat, taking them to a public screening of the new Planet of the Apes film.

In case you’re worried about letting a couple of chimps watch a film about their ape brethren rising up with weapons and attacking earth’s human inhabitants, fear not: seems the two chimps were actually a bit scared by the blockbuster.

American outlet ABC News reports that Vali and Sugrive, two chimps who live on the Myrtle Beach Safari Reserve, were taken for an outing to see Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

ABC reports that during the film, the two chimps were seen responding in a similar fashion to the humans surrounding them, with Sugriva turning away during a dramatic scene and Vali clenching his companion’s hand.

The chimps were also seen cheering for the humans in the film — which should ease any concerns that they’re plotting to take over the world back at Myrtle Beach right now.

Although if there is an ape uprising anytime soon, we’ll know who to blame.
