Cillian Murphy reveals truth behind sex scenes with Florence Pugh in Oppenheimer
Actor Cillian Murphy has described his sex scenes with Oppenheimer co-star Florence Pugh as “perfect” and “powerful”.
Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy has said his sex scenes with Florence Pugh in Oppenheimer are “perfect”.
The Irish actor plays the lead role in the new movie Oppenheimer, which was released in cinemas last Thursday to great fanfare, reports The Sun.
Murphy stars as J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s latest blockbuster. Pugh plays Jean Tatlock, who is a young Stanford Medical School student and Communist Party member and Oppenheimer’s lover.
While the actress had a shorter screen time than expected, her scenes definitely have a huge impact in the movie.
Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald about the steamy scenes, Murphy explained: “Those [sex] scenes were written deliberately. He knew that those scenes would get the movie the rating that it got.
“And I think when you see it, it’s so f***ng powerful. And they’re not gratuitous. They’re perfect. And Florence is just amazing.
Murphy also admitted he’s been a huge fan of Pugh for some time now and gushed over how “phenomenal” she is.
The 47-year-old said: “I have loved Florence’s work since Lady Macbeth and I think she’s f***ing phenomenal.
“She has this presence as a person and on screen that is staggering. The impact she has [in Oppenheimer] for the size of the role, it’s quite devastating.”
This comes after Murphy said he no longer wants to play roles where his character must smoke.
The actor opened up about his personal health concerns in a recent interview with The Guardian.
The Cork native is best known for landing the iconic role of Tommy Shelby in BBC’s popular drama Peaky Blinders.
After playing the lead in Oppenheimer, he spoke about his discomfort with smoking.
A recent report stated Murphy had smoked over 3000 cigarettes during his time on Peaky Blinders.
He revealed that for both roles he chose to smoke herbal cigarettes but is now worried that they may be harmful.
“I’ve smoked so many fake cigarettes for Peaky and this. My next character will not be a smoker,” he said.
“They can’t be good for you. Even herbal cigarettes have health warnings now.”
