Bill Clinton a surprise big hit at the GoldenGlobes
SURPRISE guest arrived on stage to raucous applause, receiving a standing ovation before he even spoke.
THERE'S nothing like a President introducing a movie about a President at the Golden Globes and who better to do it than Bill Clinton?
The surprise guest arrived on stage to raucous applause, receiving a standing ovation before he even spoke.
In one of the ceremony's best kept secrets, the 42nd President was on hand to introduce Lincoln, Steven Spielberg's epic film about the fight to abolish slavery in the United States.
During the introduction of dramatic picture nominee, he noted the challenges the 16th President faced as he worked to end the Civil War and slavery.
"A tough fight to push a bill through a bitterly divided Congress," Clinton said about Lincoln's struggle to pass the 13th amendment.
"Winning it required the president to make a lot of unsavory deals that had nothing to do with the big issue. I wouldn't know anything about that," Clinton quipped, prompting laughter from the audience.
"President Lincoln's struggle to abolish slavery reminds us that enduring progress is forged in a cauldron of both principle and compromise," Clinton continued. "This brilliant film shows us how he did it, and gives us hope that we can do it again."
"We are all here tonight because he did. Let's take a look at Steven Spielberg's extraordinary, Lincoln."
Clinton's presence to introduce the film led many to believe there is no way it cannot win the Best Picture Award.
Co-host Amy Poehler also drew raucous laughter from the audience, when she exclaimed: "Wow! What an exciting special guest! That was Hillary Clinton's husband!" How exciting!" after he left the stage.
Clinton isn't a stranger to the Hollywood scene, with his charty, the Clinton Global Initiative, playing host to dozens of acting and musical in New York each year.
