He’s starred in his fair share of rom-coms over the years, but in 2005, there was one Ashton Kutcher was fired from.

Demi Moore’s tell-all book: 6 shocking moments

Ashton Kutcher was cast to star as the lead in Elizabethtown alongside Kirsten Dunst, but was sacked and replaced by Orlando Bloom soon after he began working on it.

Sitting down with First We Feast’s “Hot Ones” segment, which sees stars tasked with answering questions while polishing off ultra-spicy chicken wings, the 41-year-old actor explained the reason why his role in Cameron Crowe’s 2005 film didn’t come to fruition.

“Yeah, I’ll say fired, sure,” the star began when asked if he was let go from the project. “[Crowe] originally wanted Orlando Bloom for Elizabethtown and Orlando Bloom was working on a Ridley Scott picture, and wasn’t available,” he explained.

“So I went [to] audition, he cast me and then we started working on it.”

He went on to reveal that from here, things simply “didn’t work out” between he and Crowe.

“I think he wanted to see the character rehearsals all the way, and I probably wasn’t disciplined enough as an actor to get myself to a point where I was able to do that and show it to him in a way that he felt comfortable.”

At a certain point we just kind of agreed that it wasn’t working out. More him than me,” he said, trying to hold back the tears brought on by the spicy wings in front of him.

He added that Orlando Bloom had “become available” around the same time he was let go, so suspected that had something to do with it.

The quirky 2005 rom-com of course went ahead with the 42-year-old Carnival Row actor as leading man, and Kirsten Dunst as leading lady. Susan Sarandon, Alec Baldwin, Jessica Biel, Judy Greer and a number of other A-listers also made an appearance in the film.
