Artist slaughtered by violent movie posters
AN ARTIST has decided to take a stand against the violence seen in movie posters, creating graphic photographs of himself being shot by characters to make the public more aware of the images they are absorbing.
VIOLENCE, bloody violence.
From video games and movies through to school shootings and alcohol-fuelled bashings. It is everywhere. It seems everyone is bloodthirsty. But one artist decided to take a stand.
Using performance art and photographs, Jon Burgerman, a New York-based artist has made a visual statement about the state of our gruesome world.
He shows himself being slain by subway movie posters to "complete the compositions to their natural conclusions".
Burgerman was becoming more and more paranoid leaving his New York apartment after the recurring US shootings.
The artist told news.com.au: "Whilst on the look out for guns and violence in general, I've noticed there are some very obvious threats right under our noses, in plain view, often supersized, for everyone to see."
Burgerman wanted the public to be more aware of the imagery they are absorbing without noticing.
"The goal with Head Shots was to make people look again at and re-evaluate the type of imagery we have no choice of avoiding in our public spaces," he told news.com.au.
He wants to ask the question to the public: What are we condoning when celebrities and movie heroes are promoted brandishing weapons?
The Gothamist reported the photographs were not allowed to be published in a UK newspaper as they are too violent. Oh, the irony.
