Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd team up for perfect rom-com parody, They Came Together

AMY Poehler and Paul Rudd’s new film, They Came Together, skewers just about every romantic comedy cliche you can think of. Here’s a first look.

CAN you think of a more adorable comedy couple than Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd? (Well, yes — Amy Poehler and Will Arnett, but let’s not get into that).

The pair have teamed up for the new romantic comedy They Came Together, coming to cinemas in June. And if the hilarious newly-released trailer is anything to go by, it seems the duo will spend the film skewering romantic comedy cliches, rather than submitting to them.

It’s all there in the trailer for the film, which also features a litany of US comedy bright sparks in supporting roles: Ellie Kemper, Bill Hader, Kenan Thompson and Jack McBrayer.

If you love love, you’ll love this movie.

Over dinner with friends, Poehler and Rudd’s characters Joel and Molly describe their meeting as “kind of a corny, romantic comedy kind of story.”

From there we see the couple’s courtship — meeting in a book store, dates around Manhattan and making out furiously for the first time — all with a super-cheesy voiceover: “If you love love stories, and you love falling in love, then you’ll love this love story.”

At one point, the pair frolic happily in a pile of leaves in Central Park — the shot pans out to reveal a dead body partially hidden underneath.

Playing in the leaves is so romantic.

“Your story really is like a corny movie!” their friend exclaims at the end of the trailer.

“The only difference is it’s not a movie, it’s our real life,” Poehler says, as she and Rudd stare at the camera.

Could They Came Together be the year’s best (anti)rom-com?
