A Star is Born is re-releasing with 12 minutes extra footage
If all you want in life is more Jackson and Ally action, especially after that Oscars performance, then this is great news.
If Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s steamy duet at the Oscars stirred something in you, then you might be a little excited to know that there is 12 minutes of A Star is Born that you have never seen.
An extended version of the movie with extra footage is being re-released into American cinemas from this weekend, though no news yet as to how or when Australians might be treated to this particular delight — we’ve asked the local distributors but haven’t had a response yet.
This new edition is said to include longer performances of songs Black Eyes and Alibi, as well as everyone’s favourite, Shallow — but the a cappella version, not the emotionally triumphant stage version, according to Insider.
There is also more footage of Jackson and Ally’s wedding sequence, of Jackson singing in his studio and of the two of them songwriting a new ditty, Clover.
While the prospect of more Jackson and Ally action is certainly exciting for some, the original version of the movie is already two hours and 15 minutes long, which is definitely stretching it for a film runtime — so this is for hardcore fans only.
The third remake of a classic Hollywood movie, A Star is Born follows the story of a seasoned musician (Bradley Cooper) and his relationship with an ingénue (Lady Gaga). The two fall in love and her career takes off while he destroys his as a result of his addictions.
The critically acclaimed movie was Cooper’s directorial debut — he also served as a producer and co-screenwriter — and Lady Gaga’s first feature role outside of cameos.
The movie was popular with audiences and finished the year eighth at the Australian box office, taking in $35 million. Globally, it raked in $595 million.
A Star is Born won the Oscar for Best Original Song this week at the Oscars, the only haul from its seven nominations.

The movie had early awards momentum out of its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival after months of frenzy over its trailer.
However, what was expected to be a big awards season quickly fell away and it failed to convert nominations into wins.
A Star is Born (the original version) is available to rent or buy through digital platforms such as iTunes.
