Miley Cyrus calls out her dad’s ‘narcissism’ as his split makes headlines

The same week her father Billy Ray has dumped his young Aussie wife after seven months, his daughter’s on TV calling him out.

Miley Cyrus said she “inherited the narcissism” from her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, amid their unfolding family drama.

The singer called out her and her dad’s shared conceited traits during her appearance on an episode of David Letterman’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, which began streaming on Netflix this week.

It comes as Billy Ray this week filed for divorce from his wife of seven months, Australian singer FireRose.

Miley, 31, also listed the Achy Breaky Heart singer’s positive qualities.

“He also has a relationship and a foot on the ground to nature and to the real. And he always did, even when he was super famous,” she said.

The Grammy-winning artist acknowledged that her father, 62, had a “really rough childhood.”

“And my childhood — I mean, we can go and talk about the hard times or the struggles — but I had food, I had love, I grew up in a beautiful big house and my dad didn’t have that,” she explained.

Miley pointed out that her mother, Tish Cyrus, had a very loving childhood in comparison to her father’s upbringing.

“Honestly, my mother is my hero,” Miley said, noting that it was really her mother, 57, who raised her.

Still, she expressed gratitude for her father, who has experience navigating the ups and downs of the music industry.

“My father — I’m grateful for being able to watch him ahead of me,” she said. “He’s almost given me this map. There is a map of what to do and what not to do. And he’s guided me on both.”

Miley explained that Billy Ray and Tish “can’t be weighed on the same scale” when it comes to which of her parents had a greater impact on her life.

The former couple were married for nearly 30 years before filing for divorce in April 2022. They had already been separated for two years at the time.

Along with the pop star, the exes also share four other children: Noah, 24, Braison, 30, Trace, 35, and Brandi, 37.

Billy Ray also shares son Christopher, 32, with his ex-partner Kristin Luckey.

Miley’s comments on her father come amid rumours that their family is feuding. Speculation that the father-daughter duo were on the outs surfaced after her mother and father’s decision to divorce.

Signs of tensions were evident when Miley, Brandi and Trace attended Tish’s wedding to Prison Break star Dominic Purcell in August 2023 while Noah and Braison were nowhere to be seen. Miley even served as her mother’s maid of honour.

Making matters messier, reports swirled that Noah had been seeing Purcell before he got together with her mother .

Miley then fuelled the flames when she thanked her mother but failed to mention her dad during her Grammy Awards acceptance speech in February.

Billy Ray also moved on from his divorce, marrying musician Johanna “Firerose” Hodges last October.

However, the family drama continued to unfold this week when he filed for divorce from Firerose after less than a year of marriage.
