KYLIE Minogue has defended her critically-panned Logies performance, insisting she was singing live.

KYLIE Minogue has been forced to defend herself this morning after copping a barrage of abuse about her Logies performance.

Viewers and celebrities mocked the pop princess’ performance of I Was Gonna Cancel with many people suggesting Minogue was miming, an allegation she has denied.

“We did something different and YES, I was singing live,” Minogue said on Twitter this morning.

The singer’s performance of her latest track having returned to the Logies after 25 years, was dubbed a disaster by critics.

“Kylie’s presence at the 2014 Logies was a highlight of the event this year and the live performance of her new single was a great moment in the room and on the broadcast.

“We were privileged to have her with us and have the world premiere of her new release,” a Nine spokewoman said.

It had initially been billed as a world-exclusive unveiling of her new single.

But Minogue’s onstage appearance at The Logies prompted an embarrassing backlash on social media, with some fans questioning whether she had been miming.

Dancing With the Stars judge Todd McKenney led the chorus on Twitter last night writing: “not sure that was a great idea for her. #mimingbadly”

The Block contestants Dale and Sophie joined in with accusations of lip-synching.

While former Spicks and Specks panellist Myf Warhurst mocked Minogue’s dancing likening it to a 1980s school camp dance routine.

After performing the track I Was Gonna Cancel, Minogue appeared to say “thank you” at the end of the song but her microphone was switched off.

There was widespread praise, though, for Tina Arena’s stunning performance of her song Only Lonely, during the “In Memoriam” section of the awards ceremony.

But Minogue’s questionable performance wasn’t the only awkward moment at last night’s awards ceremony.

Onstage banter between presenters Amanda Keller and Karl Stefanovic was also considered risque for the awards show which was televised on Nine.

Keller and host Stefanovic joked about seeing the young cast of Home and Away snorting NoDoz [a brand of caffeine stimulant] in the toilets.

“How good is snorting ‘NoDoz’?” Stefanovic said.

It is certainly not the first time the diminutive singer has been accused of miming.

In 2010, Minogue was forced to respond to critics after her performance at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade.

She was criticised for lip-synching her performance and later wrote on her Twitter page: ‘Relax peep, EVERYONE has to mime at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!!”
