Kim Kardashian’s butt takes home first prize at #hashtag bash hosted by PR bible Social Diary
Kim Kardashian’s backside garnered attention for a very different reason at a party last night. You’ve never seen it quite like this before.
A THOUSAND members of the cream of the PR & media industries gathered to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the innovative website, Social Diary last night.
The dress code — #hashtag — was quite simply, hilarious, with everything from #icebuckethallenge, #redwedding, #icloudhack, #hotdogsorlegs, #sia and a heap of #emojis making the costume cut.
The #hashtag theme was a nod to the fact social media has been in (and dominated) our lives for the past decade.
And while Kim Kardashian couldn’t make it, she was certainly there in spirit, with the best outfit of the night awarded to Kim’s left and right butt cheek and ‘worn’ by Jean Gauthier & Johnny Rockstar.
The ’boys’ wore some bulbously padded full body morph suits to represent her ample buttocks cased within a mammoth garbage bag. #BreakTheInternet indeed.
Guests decked out in a multitude of translations of the theme walked through a giant hashtag to enter the party and were met by hundreds of twitter birds fluttering from the ceiling, and ginormous styrofoam hashtags.
MC Scott Tweedie kicked off the night festivities before Paulini belted out a fabulous mashup of songs by the artists with the most followers on social media: Rihanna, Beyonce & Miley Cyrus.
Social Diary founder Tiffany Farrington came as a techno-cyborg incarnation of the woman who lives inside our phones - #Siri - an outfit designed by clever costumier, Elisa of Agent Costume.
“If you ever ask Siri what she looks like, she shirtily replies she ‘doesn’t want to discuss it’, or that she is ‘shiny’, and ‘with many dimensions’,’’ said Tiffany.
“I was decked out with 12 ipads playing videos from the last decade of social media, some high voltage LED lights that lit up my mirror ball tights and laser lights on my fingers.
“I also had 3 GoPros variously filming and snapping the party so guests could take their own selfies on my central iPad via my helmet GoPro.”
Phew!
Tiffany said her costume weighed a whopping 17kgs. “And several trips to the chiro are in order,” she smiled.
A surprise guest was long-time Social Diary performer Courtney Act, fresh off the plane from LA after huge success with RuPaul’s Drag Race in the US.
Courtney sang the very first song she sang at the Social Diary REHAB party back in 2007 — fittingly, Amy Winehouse’s ‘Rehab’, and after a Marilyn Monroe-esque rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’, she belted out an ‘Aluminium’ version of the song ‘Titanium’ (after she’d googled that what you give someone on their 10th Anniversary.)
There were a tonne of activations and interactive experiences, with Twitter Vine 360 (like the glam-cam at the Academy Awards) as well as a Polite in Public animation booth bringing to life the ASL Ice Bucket Challenge; a Fonzarelli moto scooter experience; a Trolley’d mobile bar; a Fuji Instamax moment and a makeup station by The Australasian College. Guests could also have a #selfie taken with Kurt Coleman, Australia’s ‘Selfie King’.
While the big moment at every Social Diary event is best dressed, guests battled it out for over $10,000 worth of prizes with myself, Donny Galella, Jenni Sager from Twitter and Amy Cooper choosing the finalists before the crowd chose the winners. Hilariously, the three people who came as selfie queen Kim Kardashian ALL took out top honours.
Best Dressed Guy went to a Social Diary member wearing nothing but a garbage bag (Beau Kassas); Best Dressed Girl went to the girl with a huge foam ‘stream of champagne bubbles’ flying high over her head into a glass on her pneumatic bottom.
Another $10,000 worth of prizes were given out via treasure hunts, grabbing topless male models and simply thrown out to the eager crowd while mobile food stations from Goros, NYPDeli, Brooklyn Hide, Sparkle Cupcakes, Syney Cider and Gelatissimo kept the crowd from starvation.
Guests in the steamy throng included Laura Csortan, Lynette Bolton, Tania Zaetta, Bianca Dye, David Whitehill, Donny Galella, Dan & Maz, Phoebes Garland, Alex Reid and a tidal wave of Social Diary members and enthusiasts.
