In a candid interview with Vanity Fair, the supermodel opened up about her extreme anxiety over posing nude as the face of "heroin chic", including locking herself in the bathroom and crying on the sets of revealing photo shoots as a young model.
But she denied that she used heroin or was anorexic, saying it would have ended her career.
"I had a nervous breakdown when I was 17 or 18, when I had to go and work with Marky Mark and Herb Ritts," Moss said. "It didn’t feel like me at all. I felt really bad about straddling this buff guy. I didn’t like it. I couldn’t get out of bed for weeks. I thought I was going to die."
Moss said young models have little choice but to pose nude in order to get work, and are under extreme pressure.
“So I’d do it and lock myself in the toilet and cry and then come out and do it. I never felt very comfortable about it. There’s a lot of boobs. I hated by boobs! Because I was flat-chested. And I had a big mole on one.”
Moss, who married The Kills singer Jamie Hince last year, also opened up about her relationship with Depp, revealing she felt safe with the Hollywood heartthrob.
"There’s nobody that’s ever really been able to take care of me. Johnny did for a bit. I believed what he said. Like if I said, ‘What do I do?’, he’d tell me. And that’s what I missed when I left. I really lost that gauge of somebody I could trust. Nightmare. Years and years of crying. Oh, the tears!"
While insisting she no longer parties at clubs and is settled down with her husband and daughter in the British countryside, Moss says she is still "a hell-raiser behind closed doors".
