Jen, Beckham ad steals show at Super Bowl
It’s the only sporting event in the world where audiences care more about the commercials than the game itself. These are the most viral ads from Super Bowl LVIII.
Every year people tune in across the world to watch the NFL Super Bowl … ads.
This year has proven no exception with Uber’s star-studded advertisement stealing the show as a competitive line up of commercials battled it out for precious airtime, with companies spending up to $10.8 million for a 30-second slot in the CBS 2024 final between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.
These are the most viral ads from Super Bowl LVIII:
Uber, Aniston & the Beckhams
An awkward run-in between Jennifer Aniston and former friends co-star David Schwimmer won over audiences in a megastar-packed ad for Uber.
“In order to remember something, you’ve got to forget something else,” Aniston tells an assistant before a cast of famous faces play out the comedic tagline.
The Beckhams try to remember whether Posh Spice was part of the “basil babes or paprika girls,” meanwhile this years’ Super Bowl headliner Usher tells backstage staff he “hopes (to) play a halftime show some day” in a scene which quickly guaranteed the ad instant viral status.
Ted Lasso meets Messi
Football stars seem to be in hot demand this year with Lionel Messi at his best for Michelob Ultra beer.
The commercial titled “Superior Beach” sees Messi square up against group of opponents as America’s favourite coach Ted Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis, watches on the sidelines.
“We go way back,” remarks Lasso as legendary Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino also makes a surprise appearance.
Oreos twist on history
It’s no easy feat, but Oreos have managed to rewrite themself into the history books with this years’ Super Bowl ad.
The humble biscuit tells the story of human history from the dawn of the dinosaurs to the Trojan horse saga, and even the founding of Keeping up with the Kardashians.
Each step of the way Oreos are deciding the fate of human history with the message “twist on it” bound to gain social media traction.
Tom Brady ‘has won enough’
Nothing gets more Super Bowl then an advertisement which brings together the best of NFL royalty and Hollywood hype.
Tom Brady, Vince Vaughn and Wayne Gretsky star for BetMGM Sportsbook in an ad which sees Vaughn in his role as Jeremy from “Wedding Crashes” recommending the sports betting app for everyone, except Brady.
“The truth is, you’ve won too much, Tommy,” Vaughn says. “Let others have their turn.”
Brady’s babysitter is also rumoured to star in the sports-heavy ad for audiences who keep their eyes peeled.
CeraVe with Michael Cera
This years’ strangest ad award is bound to go towards skincare company CeraVe in a commercial that needs to be seen to be believed.
Infamously awkward actor Micheal Cera plays on the pun and stars in a montage of scenes which have been labelled everything from “creepy” to “fantastic” by online audiences.
Mountain Dew’s GOT parody
Aubrey Plaza insists she is “having a blast” despite being as expressionless as ever for Mountain Dew’s Baja Blast commercial.
Kids birthday parties, alien abductions, and a wrestling match can’t faze the superstar actor as she moves through the world with Mountain Dew in hand.
However the highlight is clearly an appearance from former Parks and Recreation co-star Nick Offerman as Ron Swanson, with the two “having a blast” atop dragons for the Game of Thrones style parody.
Walken is the ‘real deal’
Everyone has a Christopher Walken impression but not everyone is the “real deal” according to this year’s viral BMW Super Bowl ad.
The commercial sees the iconic actor coming face-to-face with all kinds of impersonators attempting his classic catchphrases, but alas, “there’s only one Christopher Walken, and only one ultimate driving machine”.
Usher once again makes an appearance with Walken asking the halftime performer “haven’t you got somewhere to be?”
Bud Light gets it right
Bud Light promises to grant you all your wishes with this years’ ‘genie’ magically conjuring up a range of superstars from Post Malone to NFL star Peyton Manning in one giant wild night out.
Nothing is too much to ask, including an ostrich race with Post Malone, during a rapid-fire montage of scenes that get more unbelievable by the second.
