There has been a development in the search for TV doctor Michael Mosley who went missing on the Greek island of Symi.

Missing TV doctor Michael Mosley was spotted at a bus stop before he vanished on the Greek island of Symi.

Dr Mosley is said to have told friends he felt unwell before he left them at St Nicholas Beach and left alone to walk back to the accomodation in Pedi which he was sharing with his wife and two others.

His wife raised the alarm when he failed to show up 6 hours later.

The walk is supposed to take around 10 minutes and is rocky. Dr Mosley did not have his phone on him.

Divers joined police, volunteers, and firefighters in the massive search for the missing star who is feared to have “fallen from a height” on a walk.

Greek journalist Ionna Niaoti told Talk TV: “It is understood that about 1.30pm local time, he said he was not feeling very well and he wanted to return home.

“So he went to a coastal path reaching the closest the village of Pedi, and this was the last time somebody saw him in Pedi.”

Temperatures have soared into the high 40s across the region, as the local mayor warned Dr Mosley’s chances of survival were slim if he hadn’t been carrying water.

Bus stop mystery

As search and rescue personnel continued “combing” the island, and a sniffer dog and drones were deployed, a Symi local came forward to allege that they had seen Dr Mosley standing at a bus stop.

The resident claimed they saw the TV doctor waiting at a bus stop in Pedi at 2pm on Wednesday - thirty minutes after he left the beach, Greek newspaper Proto Thema reports.

To reach the house where he was staying, Dr Mosley would have had to walk a path of about 1,000 metres and then take a bus, the paper wrote.

Deputy Mayor of Symi Nikitas Gryllis said: “The route is passable, it is a passable path. Many old people and foreigners do it. It is only dangerous if you go near the rocks.

“There is testimony that he was seen at two in the afternoon at the bus stop. There is no information if he got on the bus and if he got off at a certain stop.

“The person who saw him has also told this to the Police and the Fire Department.”

Divers join the search

Search and rescue teams aided by a sniffer dog are today retracing Dr Mosley’s last known steps on the island of Symi.

Divers were said to be “looking into the water” with the help of the Hellenic Coast Guard after search personnel “looked everywhere” else, the island’s deputy mayor Ilias Chaskas told BBC News.

A sniffer dog was brought from Athens to walk the same rocky path Dr Mosley supposedly took alone to get back to his accommodation, and all CCTV footage captured by Pedi businesses was examined - but nothing of note was found.

Speaking with The Sun, the security officer leading search and rescue operations in the southern Aegean revealed earlier today: “We’ll retrace his footsteps, we’ll scour the entire area.

“The arrival of the dog, trained by police for exactly this kind of situation, is crucial.”

A team of five Rhodes-based investigators were also set to arrive on the tiny isle today to take witness statements and expand the probe.

The cop said: “People will be brought in for questioning as we go into the next phase of the investigation.”

‘It’s impossible’: Huge call made on doctor

In a grim call, rescuers have said it is “impossible” for Dr Mosley to still be missing on the Greek island.

The mayor of Symi said the belief among firefighters is that it would be “impossible” for Dr Mosley to still be in the Pedi area of Symi where it is thought he may have been stuck due to the dangerous terrain.

Mayor Eleftherios Papakalodoukas told BBC News: “It is a very small, controlled area, full of people. So if something happened to him there, we would have found him by now.”

With Papakalodoukas saying he believes it is most likely that the TV doctor either “followed another path” or had fallen into the sea.

The couple’s holiday plans

On Wednesday morning, the pair took a boat trip up the coast and stopped at Saint Nicholas Beach with another couple.

After enjoying a swim, Dr Mosley decided to walk back to a holiday home in Pedi around 1.30pm without his phone, which he forgot at the beach, according to Greek police.

According to locals, the hike should have taken 20 minutes.

Dr Bailey later alerted police after her husband failed to return by 7.30pm.

Local authorities began retracing his route to locate him but to no avail.

A search and rescue team was sent from Athens with drones and other equipment to join the search.

Senior Police Spokesman Constantina Dimoglidou told the Daily Mail: “There is just no trace of him.

“None whatsoever and that means that for us at least, every potential scenario is open and being investigated.”

“We have now asked the fire brigade to assist in the operation in the case that he may have slipped, tripped, fallen, even bitten by a snake, remaining injured somewhere.”

Witness accounts

The island’s mayor Mr Papakalodoukas told Greek media some witnesses claimed they spotted Dr Mosley in town after his walk, speaking to another person.

Mr Papakalodoukas Live News: “The whole island is in turmoil. The volunteers of the island and the services are out looking to find him.

“The information we have says that he returned from the beach of Agios Nikolaos, walked the footpath which is 10-15 minutes and arrived at Pedi, which is a residential area.”

A woman told TV outlets she saw Dr Mosley speaking to an elderly man near some bins after reports of him missing emerged.

A third person was also said to have been with them at around 2:20pm “wearing a very thin plaid shirt”.

Officers have been searching CCTV footage for any sign of the missing man.

The mayor said that there was “very little crime on the island” causing even more concern for officials.

“It is not easy for a person to go missing in Symi,” Mr Papakalodoukas said.

‘Deeper probe’

Police said the search so far has focused on the area between the beach of Agios Nikolaos, where Mosley was last seen, and the resort of Pedi where he was staying with his wife.

A number of extra police squadrons, Coast Guard officials, specially-trained sniffer dogs and military helicopters are all set to be flown in from Athens on Friday, according to The Sun.

A senior officer overseeing the operation said: “We’ve got forces who will also being coming in from Rhodes.

“They will start a much deeper probe tomorrow, people will be brought in for questioning.

“How does someone, a man going from one point to the other, just vanish like that?”

A senior Greek official said “no stone” would be left unturned to find Dr Mosley.

They said: “There are people on land, on the sea, there are machines in the skies [drone] looking for him.

“One way or another he will be found but right now, after all these hours of looking, it’s beginning to resemble a mystery.”

Dr Mosley appeared on Australia’s Sleep Revolution on SBS.

Concerned Facebook post

A community Facebook group on Symi shared a photo of Dr Mosley wearing a blue polo shirt, a cap and sunglasses, appealing for information.

The post reads: “Have you seen this man? He set off to walk back from St Nick’s at about 13.30 and failed to make it home.

“His friends are concerned as it is six hours since they last saw him.

“His name is Dr Mike Mosley and he is a familiar face for many British people as he has appeared on the BBC.

“The police and coast guard have been informed EMAK, the island’s rescue team, is also involved.”

‘Sick with worry’

As the search enters its third day, British TV personalities have shared messages of support for Dr Mosley and his family.

“I’m praying this lovely man is found and thinking of Claire and the whole Mosley family,” TV and radio presenter Jeremy Vine wrote on X.

Trust Me I’m A Doctor star Saleyha Ahsan said she was also praying the doctor is found safe, calling the news “shocking”.

“I literally feel sick with worry. Don’t even know what to say,” she wrote on X.

The UK Foreign Office said earlier they were “supporting” Dr Mosley’s family.

Dr Mosley is best known for hosting the BBC podcast Just One Thing.

He has also appeared on SBS series Australia’s Sleep Revolution.
