Fifty Shades of Grey trailer most-viewed this year with 36.4 million views in one week

ADMIT it, you watched it too. The Fifty Shades of Grey trailer has smashed records, getting 36.4 million views on just one week.

THERE’S been some debate as to whether the snippets we’ve seen in the 50 Shades of Grey trailer are much chop, but clearly somebody’s enjoying glimpses of Jamie Dornan rocking some very nice suits.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the preview for the adaptation of EL James’ erotic bestseller has set a record as the most-viewed trailer of 2014.

The film had the best opening week of any trailer this year, racking up a staggering 36.4 million YouTube views since it was released on July 24, according to data from technology firm Zefr.

That’s enough to beat Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which racked up 31 million views the week the trailer premiered back in March.

Mr Grey...Dornan stars as billionaire control freak Christian Grey.

Godzilla and Transformers: Age of Extinction trailer each had 26.3 million views in their opening weeks, while Dumb and Dumber Too notched 23.5 million.

The Hollywood Reporter said that Universal released the trailer so it could play before screenings of Lucy, the new action film starring Scarlett Johansson, which currently sits atop the box office in the US.

Fifty Shades of Grey stars Dornan alongside Dakota Johnson, and opens in cinemas next February.
