The Met Gala has been run for yet another year with the annual event bringing together the world’s biggest celebrities and tastemakers coming together for what has been one of the world’s most prestigious and glamorous fashion events. The benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in Manhattan was established back in 1948 but has become what it is today under legendary fashion editor of Vogue Anna Wintour, who has been the Institute’s chairperson since 1995. ‘Someone’s getting fired’: Met Gala madness
This year’s Met Gala pushed the limits of fashion with bold, barely-there outfits but a single blemish has ignited the internet’s imagination.
The 75-year-old Wintour, who was believed to be the inspiration for the book and film The Devil Wears Prada, stunned plenty herself with her look, wearing stunning custom Louis Vuitton gown designed by co-host Pharrell Williams in line with the theme of Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. But while the legendary editor looked on like a proud mother, eagle-eyed viewers noticed Wintour’s look had a flaw — namely a stain. Long painted by the brush of The Devil Wears Prada, viewers were quick to point out what appeared to be a red stain on her leg. Some believed it was stitching, others believed it may have been a drop of blood, but many more made jokes. “Stop pointing out that stain on Anna Wintour’s dress, y’all are gonna get some poor intern executed,” one said. “Someone’s head is going to roll for that,” another replied. “Terrified for whatever member of Anna Wintour’s team who’s about to be on the receiving end of the rage about that stain,” a third commented. Another posted: “Someone is getting fired...”, while another questioned: “She has like 3 assistants and no one had a tide pen?” Photo: Dia Dipasupil/Getty Images/AFP
