Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham calls out red carpet photographer: ‘Have some manners’
“You’d never say that to a man”: Hannah Waddingham unleashed after being hit with an inappropriate question at a glitzy awards show.
Hannah Waddingham did not hold back when seemingly confronted by an inappropriate question on the red carpet at the Olivier Awards in London.
In footage shared on X by user @odeiotedlasso, the Ted Lasso star, who was hosting this year’s event honouring the best in UK theatre, could be heard calling out a photographer for his remark while walking through the press pack.
“Oh my god, you’d never say that to a man, my friend. Don’t be a d**k, otherwise I’ll move off. Don’t say, ‘Show me leg.’ No.”
The crowd was then heard cheering as the actress walked off, shaking her head and clearly still irritated.
Waddingham later turned back toward the photographers telling him bluntly: “Have some manners.”
Earlier this year, the British actress opened up on the Rule Breakers podcast about how she’d learned to stand up for herself after years in the industry.
She told host Michelle Visage that she’d had to insist upon no longer taking small film and TV roles.
“So I said to my agents at the time, ‘I’m not doing it anymore … If it’s one scene, I’m not doing it anymore, and you shouldn’t be putting me up for it because it’s insulting’,” Waddingham explained.
“I’ve been a leading lady for 22 years. I’m not doing it anymore. I’d rather be in a world where I’m appreciated.”
Waddingham also revealed recently that she’d developed “chronic claustrophobia” as a result of a disturbing scene where she was waterboarded “for 10 hours” as part of her role in Game of Thrones.
“Thrones gave me something I wasn’t expecting from it and that was chronic claustrophobia,” she said during a recent appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, describing it as “horrific”.
