Kim Kardashian reveals painful reality of her Met Gala look
Kim Kardashian’s incredible Met Gala look sparked crazy rumours she’d had ribs removed — the reality was almost as gruesome.
Kim Kardashian says getting laced into her itty-bitty corset for the 2019 Met Gala wasn’t exactly a cinch.
“I have never felt pain like that in my life,” the reality star, 38, revealed to WSJ. “I’ll have to show you pictures of the aftermath when I took it off — the indentations on my back and my stomach.”
Contrary to rumours she’d had ribs removed to squeeze into her Thierry Mugler look for the gala — “I don’t even know if that’s possible,” she said — Kardashian’s impossibly tiny waist was the work of a corset by the famous Mister Pearl, a favourite of burlesque superstar Dita Von Teese.
The midsection-whittling undergarment was so tight the KKW Beauty mogul couldn’t sit and it required the star to take breathing lessons from the corsetmaker so she wouldn’t pass out during the party.
Fortunately, her upcoming line of shapewear — which Kardashian recently announced would be rebranded after the original name, Kimono, faced backlash — promises to be far less painful.
“The feeling when I had to wear that corset, (the shapewear) is not that,” she told the outlet. “It’s the second skin that makes me feel comfortable and cozy and all smoothed.”
BEHIND THE SCENES
Kardashian — an enthusiastic fan of waist trainers — achieved the look with the help of one very strong corset and a dedicated team of helpers as revealed in a behind-the-scenes video shot for Vogue. The way she tells it, it doesn’t seem to have made for a very enjoyable Met Gala.
“Anna (Wintour): If I don’t sit down for dinner, you’ll know why,” Kim announces as she struggles to sit down in the tight corset she’ll be wearing underneath her outfit.
Next come a team of three helpers to get her into the wet-look silicone Thierry Mugler dress.
“I’ve never seen a team like this before. This is like beyond what I ever thought couture was,” she marvels.
As her team put the finishing touches on her look, Kardashian sheds a bit more light on how her Met Gala will play out.
First up: She won’t be able to go to the bathroom without causing major costuming problems. “Wish me luck — I won’t be able to pee for about four hours, so we’re coming up with a plan of what we do in case of emergency,” she says.
She doesn’t elaborate on that plan but says it may have to be put to use — she gets a nervous bladder at events like this.
Even getting to the venue is a mission: The KUWTK star has to travel in a van large enough so she can stand up while holding onto a pole for stability.
