Jim Carrey leaves reporter gobsmacked during weirdest red carpet interview ever
IT STARTED off innocently enough — a reporter approached Jim Carrey on the red carpet for a quick chat. His response left her absolutely gobsmacked.
A WARNING to reporters: best to give Jim Carrey a wide berth at all future events.
E! News’s Catt Sadler became the cautionary tale at Harper’s Bazaar’s ICONS party over the weekend, after approaching the comedian and becoming part of what was possibly the weirdest red carpet interview of all time.
At first, the presenter was thrilled to have crossed paths with Carrey, remarking on how rare it was to see him at such events.
He literally circled Sadler twice before replying: “There’s no meaning to any of this. I wanted to find the most meaningless thing I could come to and join and here I am.”
Her response?
Remarkably, things managed to go further downhill from there.
“They’re celebrating icons inside, do you believe in icons?” Sadler bravely pressed the star.
“Boy, that is just the absolute lowest-aiming possibility that we could come up with. I don’t believe that you exist but there is a lovely fragrance in the air,” Carrey told her, before bizarrely bursting into a James Brown impersonation.
Sadler gave it one last shot, before presumably going on stress leave.
“But Jim, you got really dressed up for the occasion, you look good,” she told him.
“I didn’t get dressed up,” Carrey responded. “There is no me. There’s just things happening.”
This world, he added, is “not our world.”
“We don’t matter,” he said, before squeezing Sadler’s shoulder and walking away.
