Chris Hemsworth among big stars to shine on AACTA’s red carpet
One film has swept up the awards at Australian film and television’s biggest night.
Australian film and television’s biggest night is underway, with the nation’s biggest celebrities out in force at the Australian Academy of Cinema, Television, Arts (AACTA) Awards.
Chris Hemsworth accepted the Trailblazer Award, with AACTA president Russell Crowe describing him asan Australian “who’s artistic impact around the world has pushed the art form and industry to new levels”.
Elvis has won big at this year’s AACTAs, claiming four awards tonight including the top prize.
The movie claimed the Best Film award, as well as the Audience Choice Award for Best Film.
Elvis’s stars have also won big in the awards, with Austin Butler seizing the 2022 Best Lead Actor in Film award and Olivia DeJonge claiming the prize for Best Supporting Actress in film.
Aussie favourite Tom Gleeson took home the award for Best Comedy Performer for his hosting duties on Hard Quiz.
Abbie Chatfield took home the gong for Audience Choice Award for Best TV Personality.
Heartbreak High’s Chloe Hayden took home Audience Choice for Best Actress and Thomas Weatherall won the award for Best Supporting Actor in Drama.
Heartbreak High continued to roll in the awards, also claiming the Audience Choice Award for Best TV Series and writer Hannah Carroll Chapman won Best Screenplay in Television for the first episode of the show.
The likes of Chris Hemsworth, Russell Crowe and Austin Butler graced the red carpet for the awards.
Stars attending largely went for black and white looks, while others opted for bright warm tones for a more summery vibe.
But one red carpet walker has opted for a sophisticated but daring look that stood out among the stars.
Christian Wilkins paired a low cut bustier with an elegant and dramatic train fitted with a bow from designer Toni Maticevski.
“Never skip tricep day,” Mr Wilkins joked about his outfit that showed off his arms and bare back.
Hosted by Amanda Keller, with Rove McManus acting as host on the ground, Hollywood heavyweights have also touched down in Sydney for the ceremony.
Russell Crowe flew in from Coffs Harbour on Tuesday to present the biggest awards of the night to some of Australia’s brightest stars.
As the president of the AACTA board, Mr Crowe will present this year‘s Trailblazer Award to Thor star Chris Hemsworth.
Leading the nominations is Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, which is up for 15 awards including Best Film.
Other nominees in that category include Sissy, The Drover’s Wife: The Legend of Molly Johnson, The Stranger and Here Out West.
Up for Best Lead Actor in a Film are Austin Butler (Elvis), Rob Collins (The Drover’s Wife: The Legend of Molly Johnson), Joel Edgerton (The Stranger), Idris Elba (Three Thousand Years of Longing) and Damon Herriman (Nude Tuesday).
The Best Lead Actress in Film award features powerhouse talent such as Aisha Dee (Sissy), Leah Purcell (The Drover’s Wife: The Legend of Molly Johnson), Julia Savage (Blaze), Tilda Swinton (Three Thousand Years of Longing) and Jackie van Beek (Nude Tuesday).
Smash TV hits Heartbreak High, Wolf Like Me, Mystery Road: Origin, Bump and The Tourist will battle it out for Best Drama.
