Brooke Shields absolutely radiated at the Tony Awards in New York on Sunday night, local time.
But it wasn’t her sequined bright yellow Monique Lhuillier gown that was the talk of the event. Rather, the actress’ surprising choice of footwear: a practical pair of equally bright yellow Crocs.
“I got my Crocs! I couldn’t do this in heels!” the actress told People magazine on the red carpet at the David H. Koch Theatre in the Big Apple.
As it turns out, the actress underwent surgery on both her feet in the past week - a procedure she couldn’t postpone.
“I had foot surgery three days ago – double foot surgery,” she also told CBS. “I loved this Monique Lhuillier dress and I wanted to wear it, and luckily I found crocs that would go [with it]. I couldn’t postpone my surgery and Broadway gave me these broken feet and now I’m fixing them.”
Indeed, Shields has been a feature in many Broadway musicals including Cabaret as Sally Bowles, Grease as Rizzo, and Chicago, in which she played the fame role of Roxie Hart in the 2005 production.
The actress also appeared as Morticia in The Addams Family musical.
“Broadway welcomed me when nobody else was welcoming me,” she also said on the red carpet.
“I started going to Broadway when I was a little, little girl, so to me it’s a part of my life.”
Just two days ago, it seemed the actress would tap out of the Tonys as he feet were still in strapped into braces following her surgery.
“The feet pics are about to level up … Double foot toe surgery,” she captioned the photo.
