Brit Awards 2023: Sam Smith’s bizarre outfit raises eyebrows

Among the many extreme Brit Awards red carpet looks at today’s ceremony, Sam Smith was a cut above the rest in a truly bizarre ensemble.

Sam Smith’s getting hot at the latex shop.

The 30-year-old UK singer stepped out at the 2023 Brit Awards in London today in one of their most dramatic looks to date.

The Unholy hit maker, who has scored four nominations at the 43rd annual music ceremony, bounced onto the red carpet in an all-black, latex outfit by London-based fashion label Harri, in partnership with Valentino.

The complex look is somewhat of a couture take on a balloon animal, featuring a puffed chest and blown-up shoulders and thighs.

Smith, who has been making headlines of late with their evolving, boundary-pushing aesthetic, has blown up Twitter thanks to the unusual ensemble, with hilarious memes flooding the platform:

Meanwhile, Smith leads nominations at the Brits alongside Harry Styles and Wet Leg, with all three also set to hit the stage to perform.

The awards show attracted controversy when nominations were announced last month, after not a single woman was honoured in the Best Artist category.

The Brit Awards went gender-neutral in 2021 in a bid to be more inclusive, and while Adele won the gong last year, the 2023 nominations were widely considered a step back.

Female artists including Charlie XCX, Florence and The Machine and Mabel, were all snubbed for the Best Artist award, despite enjoying success in 2022.
