A newly-released behind the scenes video from Kim Kardashian’s pre-Met Gala dress fitting reveals the star was hiding a big secret on the red carpet.

While Kardashian controversially revealed she dropped some 7kg in order to fit into Marilyn Monroe’s iconic vintage dress for the event, a video published to TMZ today reveals the fragile garment still would not fit over her famous derrière.

The clip showed Kardashian, boyfriend Pete Davidson and a small army of helpers at the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not museum in Orlando, Florida.

Kardashian could be seen looking nervous as the assistants struggled to get the dress – purchased by the museum for $6.8 million in 2016 – over her famous curves.

Eventually, they were able to get the dress up – but it still wouldn’t do up, with a gaping hole across her backside. Still, Kardashian was overjoyed, and offered a simple solution to the problem: She would drape herself in a fur stole on the red carpet.

Sure enough, there was Kim at the Met Gala, complimenting the dress with a white fur stole that she was careful never to drop or even move out of place.

The cleverly hidden wardrobe malfunction offers more context as to why Kim wore the original dress for mere minutes as she walked the Met Gala’s stairs and faced the wall of photographers.

Once inside the event, she quickly changed into an exact replica of the dress (one which actually fit) so that she could relax and enjoy the evening without fear of damaging one of the world’s most expensive items of clothing.

Still, like everything Kim does, her decision to wear a 60-year-old dress made famous by an American icon has not been without controversy.

“I am extremely disappointed to see this 60-year-old, iconic dress being worn in public,” Michelle Morgan, author of the 2018 book The Girl: Marilyn Monroe, the Seven Year Itch, and the Birth of an Unlikely Feminist,told the New York Post.

“The gown is extremely fragile and has been previously kept in temperature-controlled conditions, but now here it is, not only being worn, but also in a red carpet environment, where anything could have happened to it,” she continued.

Others criticised Kim for bragging about having lost 7kg in a matter of weeks to fit into the dress, describing it as another example of the Kardashians promoting unhealthy beauty standards.
