Katie Holmes’ very Y2K outfit goes viral for all the wrong reasons

Katie Holmes’ latest red carpet look has brought back a very 2000s trend many thought would remain banished in the archives, and Twitter is having a field day.

Vintage trends have their way of coming back into fashion, but the questionable statements of the noughties haven’t yet managed to re-enter the modern style sphere.

Enter Katie Holmes, who dusted off a very Y2K ensemble to attend iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden in New York, and it’s safe to say those with deep scars from their own 2000s style archives are feeling deeply triggered.

For the occasion, the 43-year-old US actress flaunted a strapless navy dress-shirt which fell at her upper thigh, teaming it with straight-leg denim jeans and black running shoes.

It’s reminded people of the days pre-Instagram, when the likes of Hilary Duff and Mischa Barton would storm red carpets wearing sparkly miniskirts over jeans. Let’s not forget the rainbow Prada shoulder bag, to boot.

It was the era of The Hills, and while truly iconic in its heyday, isn’t remembered nearly as fondly as the boho silhouettes of the ’70s, or the retro Princess Diana street style of the ’90s.

It’s not the first time Holmes has resurrected 2000s fashion.

The Dawson’s Creek alum, who is known for playing by her own style book, is not afraid to rock a low-rise jean in her street style rotation.

She was spotted in a skinny scarf with a striped buttoned shirt and straight-leg jeans earlier this year, and was also seen out and about in a white tank top with low-rise drawstring pants and Birkenstocks.
