Weezer rocker’s wife shot by police, arrested for attempted murder
The wife of a member of an iconic 90s rock band - who was wanted for attempted murder - has been shot during a traffic chase.
Weezer bassist Scott Shriner’s wife, Jillian Shriner, was shot during a traffic chase in Los Angeles, and later arrested for attempted murder.
On Tuesday afternoon, local time, the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a hit-and-run on a freeway near the city’s Eagle Rock neighbourhood, according to a LAPD press release obtained by Page Six.
Three suspects involved fled the scene and headed toward a residential neighbourhood where police quickly barricaded off the area.
A woman, identified as Shriner, then allegedly came out of her home with a handgun.
The 51-year-old was allegedly told several times to drop her weapon, which she refused and pointed it at officers.
She was then shot in an undisclosed area and rushed into her home.
The LAPD confirms that the musician’s wife was hit by the gunfire, and TMZ reports she was struck in the shoulder.
The police said Shriner retreated into her residence after being struck — but later came outside with another female, identified as the family’s babysitter, and was taken into custody.
She was transported to a local hospital by paramedics, where she was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Police also disclosed they recovered a 9-millimeter handgun from her home.
LAPD also shared that no officers or any community members were hurt during the shootout and confirmed that Jillian was not involved in the earlier hit-and-run.
KTLA reports that both Jillian and the family’s babysitter have been released from police custody.
The outlet obtained footage from the three-car crash that caused the manhunt, and spoke to eyewitnesses who described watching one of the suspects walk away from the scene.
“I saw a gentleman walking on the shoulder,” eyewitness Alana Altmeyer told the KTLA. “So, my brother and I went over and assumed that he was leaving the scene of an accident.”
She claimed that she and her brother chased after him — and when they did, the male tried to run to the opposite side of the freeway and fell down.
“He was bleeding from his head, his mouth and his knees,” Altmeyer claimed.
However, that didn’t stop him from allegedly jumping over the side of the freeway and down an embankment.
“I chased him down the side of the freeway, across the freeway, over a couple of fences,” Altmeyer’s brother, Guy Binn, said. “He had a bag and a sweater. I got his bag. I got his sweater and me being so old, I couldn’t keep up with the guy. I chased him to the park, and I lost him.”
