VIP: The week's best parties that popped up this week
THIS week it was all about the MasterChef launch, Orlando Bloom, Vivid and Revenge - party peeps popped up all over the place.
VIP: MasterChef launch, Orlando Bloom, Vivid and Revenge - party peeps popped up all over the place.
Masterchef launch, Melbourne:
The MasterChef Series 5 launch party took over Melbourne at the new MasterChef kitchen - the first time the cooking series has been filmed at the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds.
All of the (rather slim-lined) judges - George, Gary and Mr Matt - were on hand as well as a keen cache of kitchen contestants.
Other Ten talent included Dr Chris Brown, Carrie Bickmore, Charlie Pickering, Dave Hughes, Justine Schofield, Anthony 'Lehmo' Lehman, Sandra Sully, Angela Bishop, Hamish Macdonald, Alan Fletcher and Offspring chicks Jane Harber and Alicia Gardiner.
Gabriel 'Nolan' Mann 2Day FM party:
Gabriel Mann, who plays the increasingly lovable Nolan from the TV series Revenge, hosted a private penthouse party at The Darling at The Star in Sydney just the way his billionaire character would, with fine canapés and the best Hampton’s fashion to hit Australian shores.
Gabriel was relaxed and happily posed for snaps with his fans while raving about the Australian culture.
Vivid Sydney Festival:
The harbour city really is looking spectacular each night, even the visiting P&O ship, Pacific Pearl played its part by having light projections shone on its exterior while perched at the Overseas Passenger Terminal. The ship also hosted a small dinner party at Luke Mangan's on-board Salt restaurant.
Another Vivid initiative is a range of two-hour seminars hosted by IMG Fashion centering around how consumers are really engaging with brands on a digital level. The style set are clamouring to hear from the likes of Westfield, My-wardrobe.com and designers Kirrily Johnston and Marc Freeman.
Tickets on sale now.
Orlando does Oz:
He came. He saw. He probably collapsed back onto the plane that delivered him to Sydney for just a few hours.
Orlando Bloom slipped into town this week with his British Airways ambassador hat firmly planted on his rather fetching head.
Having recently finished up in Cannes, where his latest film, Zulu, closed the annual filmic fiesta, Orlando told me he was really happy with the response. "It's now a matter of working on when it will open around the world," he said.
Orlando was in great form, catching up with his old mate Pete "The Tipster" Morrissey who he befriended at Randwick Racecourse a number of years ago, while guests enjoyed UK canapés and Pimms.
Coming up next week
- The crème of the filmic set come out next Wednesday for the opening night of the Sydney Film Festival as Audi co-host the screening of Mystery Road.
- The next night 350 invited guests, who have paid $1500 per head, will gather at a secret location in Sydney’s east to celebrate the 16th annual Gold Dinner in support of Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick. The black-tie dinner will be hosted by Channel Nine’s Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson and guests will enjoy the delights of Bollinger and a menu by Matt Moran.
- Over the weekend the Really Useful Group and Frontier Touring open the new arena production of Jesus Christ Superstar stating in Perth tonight. Woo-hoo! It will be followed by premieres in Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne: will be good to see some chic opening night outfits getting a run all over the country!
THE GOOD: The eloquence and total class shown by AFL stars Harry O’Brien and Adam Goodes this week. Kudos.
THE BAD: TV ads for betting companies, at least we're finally going to get edited down versions of these awful things.
THE UGLY: Let's hope sport can eventually get back to being just that, sport. Imagine that!
