Colin Farrell’s very intimate encounter with a blonde reporter on a 2003 red carpet is shocking a whole new generation of fans online.

The year 2003 was a different time … especially if you’re Colin Farrell.

Over the weekend, a truly jaw-dropping clip of the Irish actor on a red carpet 20 years ago resurfaced on social media.

It shows Farrell, then 26, at the premiere of his latest film at the time, S.W.A.T.

In a YouTube clip of the interview with a blonde, female red carpet reporter, Farrell first asks her, “What am I going to do that’s bad? Tell you you’re a c**t? You know what I mean?”

A casual red carpet C-bomb is surprising enough, but it’s what comes seconds later – in the portion of the interview that’s had more than 600,000 views on Twitter since it was posted two days ago – that is truly shocking.

“Who’s going to get snogged tonight?” the reporter asks Farrell, a cheeky question no doubt in reference to his status as an early noughties Hollywood ladies’ man.

“You, if you keep asking these f***ing questions. You look great, by the way,” he says, eyeing her up and down and licking her lips.

Then he locks eyes with her, places his hand on the back of her head and leans in, open-mouthed, for a kiss.

“Gentle, yeah? Just gentle and sweet,” he tells her, after the brief public pash.

“Nice breath? D’you get a buzz off that? It’s good to see you,” he says, before heading off down the red carpet.

The shockingly intimate moment certainly appears reciprocated – the unnamed reporter leans in for the kiss before Farrell’s hand is on her head, and after they’ve kissed she can be heard saying “That was really [inaudible]. Nice craic, as well.” (Craic is an Irish term meaning good banter).

Farrell – who entered rehab in 2005 for his hard-partying ways – appeared to confirm suspicions he was under the influence at the time during a 2017 interview with the New York Times.

The interviewer reported that Farrell’s “eyes widened” when she asked about the incident, easily viewable on YouTube.

“Did I? Who? Which one?” he asked. “I swear to God, I lost so much time.”

While a resurfaced interview of an actor planting a kiss on a red carpet reporter might be the sort of thing that’d get a star cancelled in 2023, it appears the prevailing reaction to the resurfaced clip is a sort of lusty affection for Farrell’s early days as a Hollywood party boy.

“He needed to get put on a leash or something during this era …” wrote one person on Twitter. “Innumerable things i need to do to him are beyond unspeakable.”

“Not me sat in bed giggling and kicking my feet,” said another.

“Too many of this generation only know Colin in his thoughtful, Indie movie era. ‘Sl*tty Blockbuster Colin’ would destroy Twitter,” said another.

“This is who Matt Healy thinks he is,” quipped another person, referring to The 1975 frontman who has courted controversy for frequently kissing fans of the band.

Others recalled 2003 was the same year Farrell showed up to another movie premiere arm-in-arm with none other than Britney Spears.

“I remember when he showed up to some premiere with Britney Spears and little me was SCANDALISED,” said one person.

Twenty years on, Farrell – now 46 and sober – is in the middle of a career renaissance. He received his first Academy Award nomination this year, for his acclaimed role in the Martin McDonagh black comedy The Banshees of Inisherin. He’s currently filming the Batman spin-off series The Penguin, set for release next year.
