Taylor Swift gives Kesha $250K as battle with Dr Luke rages on
TAYLOR Swift has given $250k to Kesha after the singer was dealt a devastating legal blow in her fight against producer Dr Luke.
TAYLOR Swift has given a quarter of a million dollars to fellow pop star Kesha, who is battling to get out of a contract with Dr Luke, whom she has accused of sexually assaulting her.
“Taylor Swift has just generously donated $250,000 to Kesha, as a show of support during this difficult time. AMAZING!!” tweeted the Tik Tok singer’s mum, Pebe Sebert.
“A persons wealth is not measured by what they have but by WHO they help with it. And Taylor Swift is a truly RICH PERSON. Thank you,” she continued.
“Most important for Kesha, is that these beautiful, powerful women are standing behind her, letting the world see how powerful the truth is!”
On Friday, a judge ruled that Kesha would not be allowed to break her exclusive recording contract with Sony and music producer Dr Luke, even though Kesha claims the producer raped her. He has not been charged.
Lovato, last night took some heat online for seeming to criticise Swift, who made $US80 million last year.
“Take something to Capitol Hill or actually speak out about something and then I’ll be impressed,” tweeted Lovato moments after Swift’s payout was announced.
The Cool for the Summer singer was blasted by social media users within minutes, with many saying they believed she was throwing “shade” at Swift. This prompted Lovato to lash out on Instagram, where she addressed the backlash early on Monday.
“I didn’t shade Taylor. If you take it that way than fine,” she said, in response to a user who called her a bad role model.
“I’m just tired of seeing women use ‘women empowerment’ and ‘feminism’ to further brands without actually being the ones that have the uncomfortable conversations,” Lovato explained. “I get shade and I don’t give a f**k because someone has to be the one to take it. At least I’m getting my hands dirty.”
She also shot down claims that she had taken all of the attention off of Kesha and her legal troubles.
“How the f**k am I making this about myself?” Lovato asked one user, who claimed she was trying to steal the spotlight.
“At least I’m talking about it,” she seethed. “Not everyone has 250k to just give to people. Would love to but I didn’t grow up with money and def haven’t made as much as her. At least I speak up about sh*t that’s uncomfortable to talk about rather than trying to be politically correct 24/7.”
Lovato then added, “there’s no ‘rivalry’ I just give more f**ks than other people and would rather start a dialogue ABOUT WOMEN COMING FORWARD ABOUT BEING RAPED than throw money at one person.”
While some believed Swift’s donation was ultimately a dig at Lovato, sources close to the Grammy winner said there was no connection.
“When Taylor saw the heartbreaking courtroom photos of Kesha, it was then that she knew she needed to do something,” a source told Rolling Stone.
