Taylor Swift fans criticise Scooter Braun social media post bragging about ‘buying’ the singer

The war of words between Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun is continuing, with the manager re-posting — then deleting — a message congratulating him for ‘buying Taylor Swift’.

A now-deleted Instagram story posted by Scooter Braun’s friend David Grutman and reposted by the pop star manager has Taylor Swift fans on the warpath, People reports.

Following the announcement on Sunday that Braun had purchased Big Machine Records, including Swift’s entire music catalogue, Grutman posted a story on Instagram with the caption: WHEN YOUR FRIEND BUYS TAYLOR SWIFT.

Braun reposted the story, which was quickly noticed by Swift’s sharp-eyed supporters before Braun deleted the post.

One fan posted a screenshot on Monday of the incriminating post, saying, “scooter literally exposed himself in a now deleted Instagram story, before everything exploded. this shows his intentions and proves that he bullied taylor swift. we love men exposing themselves without even knowing it … #WeStandWithTaylor.”

News of the deleted Instagram story follows a fiery Tumbr post written by Swift on Sunday where she said she’d fought with former Big Machine owner Scott Borchetta for years over the rights to her music. According to Swift, Borchetta wanted her to sign a new contract where she would gain ownership of an old album only after submitting a new one to the label.

Learning that Braun, who bought Big Machine through his Ithaca Holdings company, now owned her entire back catalogue, Taylor wrote that it was her “worst nightmare.”

Borchetta denied Swift’s allegations that he was aware of her fraught relationship with Braun prior to the sale. “Scooter has always been and will continue to be a supporter and honest custodian for Taylor and her music,” he said, in a letter posted to his label’s website on Sunday.
