Splitsville: Eight of the saddest celebrity breakups of 2013
FROM splits that shocked, to scandals that rocked Hollywood, here are the bust-ups we didn't see coming.
MADONNA and her 25-year-old dancer boyfriend Brahim Zaibat have called it quits after three years together.
A rep for the 55-year-old Queen of Pop confirmed the news to E!, with insiders saying the pair's busy and conflicting schedules were to blame.
Madge's relationship breakdown is the latest in a long line of celebrity bust-ups this year. From splits that shocked, to scandals that rocked Hollywood - but some were just plain sad.
Here are eight of the saddest A-list splits that made headlines in 2013.
George Clooney and Stacy Keibler: They called it quits in July after two glamorous years spent holidaying off the coast of Italy, zipping around on motorcycles and making everyone green with envy on the red carpet. Unfortunately Keibler reportedly grew tired of the eternal bachelor's unwillingness to settle down and have kids, so she pulled the pin.
Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber: On-again, off-again! This was one relationship status that was hard to keep up with. Just when we thought the former Disney starlet and the Baby singer were patching things up, it all came crashing down again. And while Beliebers were stoked with the news, Gomez revealed afterwards that she was "broken" by the split.
James Packer and Erica Baxter: The billionaire casino mogul announced his split from his wife of six years just months after moving into their dream $50 million mansion in Sydney's Vaucluse. Packer, who is Australia's third-richest person with a personal fortune of about $6 billion, blamed "years of pressure" on the split. They have three children together, the youngest who is just one.
Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom: Miranda revealed in October that her marriage to Orlando had broken down several months earlier. This is where things get interesting - their shock split came just one month after Packer's announcement and it appears Packer and Kerr have since embarked on a new relationship together. Both women grew up in Gunnedah, in northwest NSW, which could make any upcoming trips home to see family this Christmas pretty interesting.
Michelle Williams and Jason Segel: This was one Hollywood couple everyone wanted to get their happy ending. But Williams split from the How I Met Your Mother funnyman, saying she "wasn't ready to commit" to their future together. The pair were also reportedly battling with their long-distance relationship - Segel was based in Los Angeles, while Williams and her seven-year-old daughter Matilda resided in New York.
Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder: Another one bites the dust! These Vampire Diaries co-stars ended their off-screen relationship back in May amid rumours the 24-year-old actress "wasn't ready" to talk marriage with her 35-year-old boyfriend. The pair dated for three years.
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth: Miley announced her split from her Aussie fiance just weeks after THAT controversial VMA twerking performance. Coincidence? We'll never know for sure. But shortly after the wheels began to fall off as the former Disney starlet continued to shock with her risque performances. While plenty of fans thought Liam was too good for Miley, it's a sad result for the young lovebirds after their yearlong engagement.
Kylie Minogue and Andres Velencoso: Unlucky-in-love Kylie Minogue was reportedly heartbroken after ending things with her boyfriend of five years, Spanish model Andres Velencoso. The split was reportedly due to the pressures of their hectic work schedules, which friends described as "unbearable." At 45, Minogue has had a string of high-profile relationships, including with Jason Donovan, Michael Hutchence, and Olivier Martinez. But she referred to Velencoso as "the one" just 12 months ago.
