The uncomfortable moment Russell Brand was publicly blasted by a fellow celebrity during an awards show over a lewd joke has resurfaced amid multiple sexual abuse claims against the comedian.

In 2006, the British star was infamously called out by a furious Sir Rod Stewart at the GQ Men of the Year Awards after bragging to the audience that he’d slept with his model daughter, Kimberly.

“Here’s to Rod Stewart who had a go at me earlier this year for too much womanising,” Brand said as he accepted his award, adding crudely: “But then again I did have a go on his daughter.”

Shortly afterwards, Stewart himself was on stage to collect his trophy, and took the opportunity to publicly rebuke the Forgetting Sarah Marshall star.

Addressing Brand directly, the Maggie May singer said: “You went with my daughter, did you? Russell, stand up.”

According to reports at the time, Brand appeared “sheepish” and mumbled back: “I took her out for one evening,” to which Stewart demanded: “Did you behave yourself?”

Brand reportedly replied that he’d “never touched that girl”, and was promptly put in his place by the music legend.

“F**king right, you didn’t. You mustn’t come up here and boast. I speak as a father,” he told him angrily.

Brand later reportedly tried to smooth things over with Stewart, and the pair were even pictured together in photographs following the ceremony.

However, it was clear from an interview the singer gave a day later that all was not forgiven.

“He’s got to be careful,” Stewart told the UK’s Evening Standard at the time.

“He might be a bit of a player but he shouldn’t boast. I never did.”

He added: “Russell’s been a bit timid since I had my say.”

According to a joint investigation published by The Sunday Times of London, the Times of London and Channel 4 Dispatches, Brand, 48, has been accused of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse by four women at the height of his fame between 2006 and 2013.

One woman alleges Brand raped her against a wall in his Los Angeles home, while another claims she was assaulted when he was 31 and she was only 16 and still at school.

She has accused Brand, who she says referred to her as “The Child”, of being emotionally abusive and controlling during their three-month relationship.

Two other women accused the star of sexual assault, while one of them also alleges he was physically and emotionally abusive.

The British comedian and actor has firmly denied the allegations.

He posted a video late on Friday night local time, in which he vehemently refuted what he described as “very serious criminal allegations” made against him.

In the nearly three-minute monologue, which was shared with his 11 million X followers and 6.5 million YouTube subscribers, Brand insisted any encounters during his “promiscuous” period were “consensual” and that he was being targeted in a “co-ordinated media attack”.

“Is there another agenda at play? Particularly when we’ve seen co-ordinated media attacks before, like with Joe Rogan, when he dared to take a medicine that the mainstream media didn’t approve of, and we saw a spate of headlines from media outlets across the world using the same language,” Brand said.
