FORMER Beverly Hills 90210 star Shannen Doherty has announced that she is in remission but warned fans that she may not be out of the woods yet.
The 45-year-old actress was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2015.
The star has been documenting her journey on social media, bravely showing many of the scary moments cancer patients have to go through.
“Today was and is a moment. What does remission mean? I heard that word and have no idea how to react. Good news? YES. Overwhelming. YES. Now more waiting,” she said. “As every single one of my fellow cancer family knows, the next five years is crucial. Reoccurrences happen all the time. Many of you have shared that very story with me.
“So with a heart that is certainly lighter, I wait. In the meantime, decisions. Reconstruction which is several surgeries. Decision on taking a pill for the next five years that comes with its own set of problems and side effects. I am blessed, I know that. But for now ... remission. I’m going to just breathe,” she wrote.
Doherty has been supported by many of her friends including Buffy star Sarah Michelle Gellar, Chelsea Handler and best friend, former Charmed co-star Holly Marie Combs.
Even Alyssa Milano, who Doherty feuded with on the set of Charmed, has sent the actress well wishes.
Her 90210 stars including Luke Perry, Jason Priestly, Gabrielle Carteris, Ian Ziering and Jennie Garth have also expressed support for their former co-star.
“To my soul sister @theshando strongest lady I’ve ever known. then and now. I used to be threatened by your spirit, now i’m in awe of it,” Garth wrote. “I’m so grateful that young me got to be friends with you. but especially ‘old’ me! the best is yet to come on this crazy journey!! love you!”
The message accompanied a banner that simply read, “Fight like a Brenda.”
Doherty’s mum and husband Kurt Iswarienko have also been by her side every step of the way.
