Serena Williams’ daughter Olympia claps for mum and aunt Venus Williams during match
Serena Williams’ one-year-old daughter Olympia has showed off her sportsmanship by applauding both her mum and aunt Venus during a recent tennis match — watch the adorable video.
Adorable Alexis Olympia Ohanian couldn’t decide whether to support her mum or aunt during an exhibition match in Abu Dhabi — so she settled on both.
The one-year-old was captured applauding both tennis greats as she watched intently from the sidelines in dad Alexis Ohanian’s lap.
The Reddit founder beamed as his tiny tot watched the ball go back and forth — clapping excitedly as the tennis points were traded between sisters Serena and Venus.
The daughter of the 23-time grand slam singles champion was dressed in a smart tartan dress and was seen biting her lip as the match unfolded.
This comes at a historic moment for female tennis players, with just this week extra protection being afforded to new mothers after they return to the WTA Tour following having a baby.
The updated rule will come in to effect next season, and ensures that females players who have just given birth will not face a seeded player in the first round of a tournament.
Williams returned to the courts earlier this year after giving birth in September 2017 and had her ranking plummet to 451.
BBC Sport quoted the Michigan-born athlete saying: “I think it’s great.”
“Women that are younger can go out there and have kids and not have to worry about it, and not have to wait until the twilight of their years to have children, and I think it’s a really great rule.
“I think having gone through the experience myself really opened my eyes. Would have I done it sooner had there been different rule changes? I don’t know.
“But now there is an opportunity, people don’t have to ask that question.”
The 37-year-old landed in Perth on Friday to compete in the Hopman Cup, before making her way to Melbourne to reclaim her title in the Australian Open.
