Sarah Jessica Parker won’t rule out replacing Kim Cattrall on possible Sex and the City movie

SARAH Jessica Parker has revealed she’s “interested” in a particular actress playing Samantha, and described her heartbreak over Kim Cattrall’s claims the cast were “not friends”.

Sarah Jessica Parker confirms 'Sex in the City 3' will not happen

SARAH Jessica Parker has revealed she’s open to replacing Kim Cattrall on any further Sex and the City movies, but that the cast has to “grieve” the actress’ departure first.

Appearing alongside Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live in the US the star said that the show’s creator Michael Patrick King has to decide how — or if — the show continues.

“I think once everybody has thoroughly experienced the grieving process, then Michael Patrick King can go back and sort of ponder what he might want to do and how he might want to proceed. That’s the most clear answer I’ve given yet,” Parker said.

And even though Cattrall made the role famous, Cohen addressed rumours that screen icon Sharon Stone could step into Samantha’s stilettos.

“I think you are not the first person who said that,” Parker said. “I think it’s a really interesting idea.”

Parker also spoke out about Cattrall’s assertion late last year that she was “never friends” with the rest of the cast.

“Just heartbroken,” Parker admitted to Cohen. “I mean, that whole week, you and I spoke about it endlessly, because I was just, I don’t know, I found it very upsetting because that’s not the way I recall our experience. It’s sad, but I always think that what ties us together was this singular experience. It was a professional experience, but it became personal because it was years and years of our lives, so I hope that eclipses anything that’s been recently spoken.

“That many years spent doing something so special that people had a connection with it is such a privilege.”

Speaking to Piers Morgan last year, Cattrall said any relationship she had with co-stars Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis was purely “professional”.

“We’ve never been friends. We’ve been colleagues and in some ways it’s a very healthy place to be because then you have a clear line between your professional life and relationship and your personal.”

Cattrall, who played the role of Samantha for 12 years through the show’s duration and two movies, also said s turned down the opportunity to reprise the role in the third movie back in December 2016.

“I remember so clearly making that decision. Last December (2016) I got a phone call and it was concerning that and I knew exactly, I could feel it, and the answer was simply, ‘Thank you but no, I’m good.’”

She also lashed out at claims she had become an “impossible diva making terrible demands”, taking a swipe at Parker, who she said “could have been nicer”.

“To get any kind of negative press about something that I’ve been saying for almost a year of ‘no’ that I’m demanding or a diva, and this is really where I take to task the people from Sex and the City and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker is that I think she could have been nicer. I really think she could have been nicer. I don’t know what her issue is,” Cattrall said.

“I think the thing that still bothers me is this feeling of being in some way made to be the baddie. I never asked for any money, I never asked for any projects, to be thought of as some kind of diva is absolutely ridiculous.”

Cattrall won a Golden Globe award in 2002 for Best Supporting Actress as well as five Emmy nominations and four Golden Globe nominations for playing Samantha in the TV classic.

The series ran for six years from 1998-2004 before it moved to the big screen for two movies.

The first film was made for US$60 million ($80 million) and grossed US$415 million ($520 million) worldwide, but the sequel was panned by critics, even though it made US$300 million ($375 million) at the box office.
