Ryan Phelan: TV star’s domestic violence charges dropped

TV personality Ryan Phelan was facing charges of assaulting his partner at their luxury home, but police have today dropped them completely.

Prosecutors have dropped domestic violence charges laid against TV star Ryan Phelan, who was accused of assaulting his partner at their home on Sydney’s northern beaches.

Mr Phelan, 45, was charged in June with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault against Chelsea Franklin.

The former host of Channel 7’s The Daily Edition and veteran sport anchor had strenuously denied the allegations and was set to face a December hearing after pleading not guilty to all charges, but they were withdrawn by police on Friday.

The court had previously heard Ms Franklin was set to be called as a witness at the hearing over an alleged assault at Frenchs Forest on June 20.

Mr Phelan was arrested and charged on June 23 after his partner reported an incident at the local police station.

Ms Franklin told media after the incident went public she was “completely devastated”.

Mr Phelan had unequivocally denied the allegations since his arrest.

The Seven Network sacked him after being notified of the charges, saying in a statement he would not be returning to The Daily Edition “effective immediately”.
