Why Meghan Markle wasn’t allowed to wear her hat at Wimbledon
MEGHAN Markle had to hold her hat in her hand all day long at Wimbledon but wasn’t allowed to put it on. Here’s why.
MEGHAN Markle wasn’t allowed to wear her hat at Wimbledon — and it’s all because she’s a royal now.
Last time she cheered her pal Serena Williams on, back in 2016, the 36-year-old wore a white Panama hat with a black ribbon as she sat in the stands.
According to The Sun the Duchess of Sussex brought the same hat with her this year — but she wasn’t allowed to actually wear it, despite the blazing heat.
Instead, Meghan could be seen clutching the hat in her hands throughout the day, so what’s changed since her last visit?
It’s all to do with her position in the Royal Box — where Meghan sat with sister-in-law Kate Middleton, 36.
Spectators in the Royal Box have to follow a set of fashion rules, with guests being asked to dress smartly — and men advised to wear a jacket and tie.
While those in the Royal Box are also asked not to wear hats, in case it blocks the view of others around them.
The same rules don’t apply to everyone. Tennis fans sat elsewhere in the stands are allowed to wear hats, as long as they’re considerate of others.
Which is why Meghan got away with wearing one two years ago, before she started dating Prince Harry.
It seems the former Suits actress had planned to wear the hat today, before she realised the Royal Box rules.
Of course she still looked very glam — although some have compared her outfit to a Wimbledon linesman’s uniform.
