UK tourist killed in New Orleans terror attack ID’d as stepson of Prince William, Harry’s nanny
A UK tourist with links to the British royal family has been identified as the only foreigner among the 14 victims killed in the horrific New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans.
The stepson of Prince William and Prince Harry’s former nanny was identified as one of the 14 victims killed in the New Orleans terrorist attack early New Year’s Day.
Edward Pettifer, 31, died from “blunt force injuries” after Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove a rental pick-up truck down a crowded Bourbon Street in the French Quarter just after 3am on Wednesday, according to the BBC.
Pettifer’s stepmother Tiggy Pettifer cared for the royal brothers from 1993 to 1999, The NY Post reports.
“The entire family are devastated at the tragic news of Ed’s death in New Orleans. He was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew and a friend to so many,” Pettifer’s family said in a statement.
“We will all miss him terribly. Our thoughts are with the other families who have lost their family members due to this terrible attack. We request that we can grieve the loss of Ed as a family in private. Thank you.”
King Charles and Prince William have been made aware of the tragedy and the British monarch has contacted the Pettifer’s family to share his condolences, the BBC reported.
Prince Harry would not be commenting on the death, sources told the outlet.
In 2020, Tiggy Pettifer was named godmother of Harry and Meghan Markle’s first child Archie.
Jabbar, who had an ISIS flag flying on the back of his truck, manoeuvred around a police blockade at Bourbon Street around 3:15am before speeding into crowds of party-goers along the iconic stretch — leaving a trail of blood and bodies in his wake.
The “hellbent” terrorist’s deadly attack was stopped when he crashed into a crane that was parked in the middle of the famed road.
Jabbar then got out of the truck and began shooting at police, who returned fire and killed the terrorist.
The attack on the Big Easy left 39 others injured.
Federal investigators discovered Jabbar had pledged allegiance to ISIS and acted alone in the attack.
