Today show presenter Ally Langdon has revealed that while she “really tries to like” Meghan Markle, there’s “just something” that irks her about the Duchess of Sussex.

Speaking about Ms Markle’s new Archetypes podcast on the Today Show with Australia’s Sport and Aged Care Minister, Anika Wells, Ms Langdon said there was something about the Suits star that rubbed her the wrong way.

“I really try to like Meghan Markle; I think some of the arguments she makes about ambition are very true, but there’s just something, you know?” she said.

In her podcast, Ms Markle makes a series of complaints about the misconceptions of ambition and her duties as a royal.

“I don’t ever remember personally feeling the negative connotation behind the word ambitious until I started dating my now husband. Apparently ambition is a terrible, terrible thing, for a woman, that is,” she said.

The former actress added “the notion of ambition comes with many judgments and nuances – especially for women.”

She also said some believe “if you’re an ambitious woman, you have an agenda; you must be calculating or selfish or aggressive, or a climber”.

Entertainment reporter Peter Ford also shared his thoughts on the new project in a tweet, writing “Meghan’s podcast is just another way she can talk about herself”.

In the new podcast, Ms Markle revealed the moment her son Archie narrowly avoided a fire in his nursery while the family was in South Africa.

Reliving the moment for her listeners, Ms Markle spoke of her frustration that she immediately had to do another official engagement.

“Everyone’s in tears, everyone’s shaken … And what do we have to do? Go out and do another official engagement.”

A heater in Archie’s bedroom had caught fire as the four-and-a-half month old was taken downstairs by his nanny.

“There was no smoke detector,” the Duchess reported as she spoke of the toll the ordeal had on her as a new mother.

‘There was this moment where I’m standing on a tree stump and I’m giving this speech to women and girls, and we finish the engagement, we get in the car and they say there’s been a fire at the residence. What? There’s been a fire in the baby’s room,” she said.

Ms Langdon and Ms Wells agreed that Ms Markle often “divided opinion” with the Minister criticising the Duchess for not fighting harder to be with her child.

“Ultimately, I think, she should have pushed on; she should have fought harder,” she said.

“She should have just brought the baby, made the point and said something.

Because I think ultimately what everyone wants is authenticity in people in public life, and if that means being honest about caring responsibilities, that ultimately creates better public policy.”

Ms Wells, who has been snapped with her twin babies in parliament, bringing the pair into the House of Representatives to advocate for more support for parents, also spoke about the struggles of being a working mum.

She said there are “very strong rules” about what you can and can’t bring into parliament.

“I was really terrified about it, but I had to do it, and I was really surprised and gratified by the support that I got for it,” she said.
